Becoming more and more curious about this one....
Lionsgate and Yahoo Movies have revealed a new trailer for The Hunger Games, the first installment of a new trilogy based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel. Check it out in the video player down below and sound off with your opinions. The sci-fi action tale stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Amandla Stenberg, Donald Sutherland and Stanley Tucci. Helmer Gary Ross led from the director's chair, based on a screenplay he wrote with Billy Ray and author Collins.
Plot Concept: Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

From the 1st trailer it looks like this will be pretty loyal to the book. While I read the books I had a hard time envisioning certain things because of how Katniss described them so simply. But I really love the way it looks. I just hope all of the build up doesn't jinx it. This has the potential to be a great franchise. I just hate how they keep comparing it to Harry Potter (in the sense it'll be a huge money maker) because that tends to ruin franchises. And people saying it's like Twilight because it has to do with teenagers but that's not true. I'm a fan of the Twilight books and this series is nothing like it at all!
It does look pretty faithful to the book, except this new trailer has Katniss giving the golden mocking jay pendant (which plays a huge role throughout the series) to her little sister, then you see it again when Cinna pins it on Katniss right before the games while making a "shh" gesture, like it's a secret she's wearing it. This didn't happen in the book, and it's a big mistake in my opinion. Katniss received the pendant from the mayor's daughter as a gift to bring with her into the games. Since tributes are allowed to bring special tokens into the arena, she had no reason to hide it and the Capitol didn't care she wore it...initially anyway. Who gave her the pendant it also important. The mayor's daughter (towns people think mayors are favored in the Capitol's eyes), gave Katniss something that could be considered an object of rebellion...against an extremely oppressive government. This didn't make sense at first, but you find out later mayor's are useful to the Capitol until they are no longer useful, just like everyone else. I'm guessing once she's in the arena, the pendant Cinna hid will become not so hidden...since this object is so important, the last book is called "Mockingjay"
In the book Cinna clears the mockingjay pin with the gamekeepers. They cared a little bit that she wore it because nobody is suppose to go into the arena with anything and a pin might be used as a weapon. But they did relent. You can see they changed this in the movie because Cinna views it as having to be a secret. I think they took Madge out and put the mockingjay pin as a family thing for a more emotional scene. Madge is not a close person to Katniss, they go to school togehter and thats it. I am sure the film makers wanted the Mockingjay pin to be closer to her heart. Katniss barely remembers the thing in the book.
Almost done with the first book it's been great. Hopefully this will be as good.
