okonomiyaki4000>> Yes Macross - no singing on this version assuming you mean the edited US version from Harmony Gold.

I would like to see a Yu Yu Hakusho reboot.  A Naruto and Bleach Kai would be nice as well.  I would like to see Gundam done over as tit was meant to be.  Check out the novel some time Amuro isn't the nice kid he seems in the series.  It is darker and more adult in nature.  Nice list.

@ aokonomiyaki4000 - Do you seriously think Macross needs a reboot???  How could you not like Macross? Unless you're talking about the Robotech version of Macross, in which case I see your point, even though I still liked it and find it remarkably close to the Japanese original especially given the climate that Robotech came out in.

I'm not totally getting the sailor moon reboot coment at the end except that you probably meant Sailor Stars needs to be brought over.  It had Sailor Stars season had a good conclusion and left open if there would have been day continue more to me.  Though any more Sailor Moon would be good either in finally getting a proper release here (hopefully by funimation) or a remake.

Ordinarily I would bemoan the fact that Space Battleship Yamato wasn't included on the list, but since it got revamped this past December I don't suppose I have much cause to complain.  Still waiting for it to be imported to the US though.

The shows in most need of a reboot are those that would be best advantaged by:

a) new technology, and/or

b) new story interpretation

How the reboot is instituted can be variable.  Batman is an example of a going back to core roots and staying edgy, although all the essentials remain the same. Battlestar Galactica, however, is an example of a complete reworking of a concept, with virtualy everything from the prior series turned on its head. Only the most basic framework was retained, with an extensive reworking and reimagining of everything about the series.

Batman is a classic, which simply needed to shed a lot of the drek which it had accumulated in the visual medium. BSG however, was a campy series, badly in need of a lot of work.

Both approaches, as can be seen, can work.

The series not named, yet mentioned in the comments, that most intrigues me is the original Macross. A lot of the "reboot" discussion here seems to be not about rebooting, but simply about editing away filler. Macross would hugely benefit from a tech upgrade and some tweaking of character designs (no more absurd male hair). Given how the Macross series has a hisotry of alternate retellings, it'd be easy enough to do this without endangering the possibility of more sequels.

Another obvious choice: Space Battleship Yamato. Sure, they've got a live action version coming, but think how the original would look with upgraded graphics and character designs.

Gimpythewonder i agree that lain was a great series but you do have to take into concideration what was being said with so many advances in technology it would be interesting to if the old lain could keep up with the faster computer age,

think of it like the matrix- lain has to upgrade her programing so she wont be deleted by the more powerful so she reapears on the earth realm to aquire the new suplies she needs and all hell breaks loose because others want her power as well.

Hmmm.  Some of these suggestions are pretty interesting.  A Sailor Moon or Yu Yu Hakusho reboot could be cool to see, especially if they kept closer to the Sailor Moon manga this time, and made it shorter.  I agree with what some of the others have been saying though, about some of these shows being too new to already need a reboot.  Naruto also doesn't really need a "Kai" treatment; As far as the first series goes, out of the first 124 or so episodes, there were only a handful of pure filler episodes, and in general, the pacing was great (it averaged like 5 episodes per manga volume, which is a lot better than Dragonball could boast, even before Z).  Yes, it did have filler, but 99% of it was crammed all together at the end, so if you find it so unenjoyable, its very easy to just skip it entirely.  Naruto SHIPPUUDEN on the other hand, could probably use a little editing down, although I personally don;t find the filler arcs in this series to be as bad as the ones from the first series.

I have to disagree with Yugioh too.  Beyond toning a few things down, and adding some filler arcs, the anime still followed the manga pretty close.  And a reboot with a new story wouldn;t be all that different from what we already have with GX and 5Ds.  And I'd like to clear up a little misconception that always seems to get passed around; the "missing season" of Yugioh is not really a season at all, its a completely different SERIES, owned by a different company.  It has drasticly different animation, different voice actors, and contradicts a lot of stuff from the series we know.  The reason it wasn;t brought over wasn;t because it was "too violent" (although it is more violent than Yugioh DM) but because 4kids just didn;t licence it.  And its understandable, even if they toned it down, its only 27 episodes, and Yugioh DM was written to stand alone, so they don't really fit together anyway.

Are far as Sailor Moon goes, in Japan here where I live they are re-releasing the whole series as limited editions - 2 volumes per season (complete and uncut). They are digitally remastered and will only be available through to the end of 2011 and then they're gone. You never know, maybe they will do the same for the States. Here is a link with the info...

Unfortunately, they are without subtitles. They have already release volumes 1 and 2 for this month and are pretty expensive (no surprise there). If you are a die hard fan and don't mind the lack of subtitles, the cost is worth it. If you still need to understand what is going on despite the lack of subtitles, this episode guide may help (almost complete) - since that's why it was created in the first place...
