What about the roots for the entire Battle-Tech / Mech-Warrior series of giant battle robots? - talk about a big impact on US culture!

YEAH, AND SHOULDN'T THE PHOENIX FROM BATTLE OF THE PLANETS/GATCHAMAN RATE? IT CONVERTED AND CHANGED AND WAS MORE FORTIFIED WITH THE OTHER VEHICLES???

No Raideen... NO LIST!

Mazinga Z was part of the Shogun Warriors line, snew.

I'm a huge Battle of the Planets fan as well invisioner, but not even I think the Phoenix has any business on a list of mecha.  It was awesome, but it wasn't a mecha.

Most of the mecha from Battletech were just knock-offs of designs from various anime series, Macross being the most prevalent.

take a second look at that "blue zaku".  I think Ramba Ral said it best  "that's no Zaku Boy, No Zaku"

Pretty good list though.  it has every milestone mecha. all my favorites too.

@Xenomorph How is it iconic in any way?

@Keith You're full of shit. Go kill yourself. All robots are mecha.

reposting my aod-forum comment...

I highly appreciate that box pic of the Yamato Toys' 1/48 VF-1A from DYRL in the article, but considering majority of the western fans have still not seen (nor even know of) DYRL and since the artcle also mentioned Robotech (which that particular VF-1A color-scheme never appeared in anywhere of RT)...,

...dontcha think showing the pic/snapshot of the really more iconic VF-1J and/or VF-1S mechas would just even be more than simply appropriate?

Heck! Even the Destroid Tomahawk has more iconic recognition here in the States as the much-beloved Warhammer mech of Battlech and Mechwarrior games.

i'm not sayin, but i'm just sayin'...     ;)

oh, btw, since the article listed/mentioned Transformers, too, you guys might as well check out this old commercials for Transformers toys...

yeah. in case you weren't born yet back then, you'll see in that commercial a rather familiar red/black-trimmed mecha called Jetfire.  Which was actually sold in stores, but just never really animated/shown in the tv-show.

you might also notice that it's quite similar to Macross' yellow/black-trimmed super VF-1S...

;)

(Moved to Sparks, Nevada...  Unable to surf the web between Saturday and now...  Comes back and finds THIS.)

Apparently; the circus clowns over at TFWiki, who had been dissing Autobot Drift, need to shut up.  There would BE no Transformers without the Diaclones and such.

Also, Harmony Gold needs to let Macross go so everyone else can enjoy it.  Too bad the new Macross became a copycat of the old Macross.  :(
