I can understand the knock on MJ being number one. But I think suggesting actors who've merely starred in genre movies is not the same as leaving an influence in genre. Denzel is def an influence on African Americans and their place in Hollywood in general. But that's far different than being an influence on Sci-Fi. I can't name one memorable genre role that has had some lasting influence on Sci-Fi in anyway.

I do think Michael is deserving to be mentioned at least. Thriller was a game changer not just for music videos. But for better or for worse, the change in how music videos are made has an influence on how movies have been made.

I also agree that Richard Roundtree is a bit of a head scratcher. I def agree Levar Burton should have had at least an honorable mention. I'm not a regular ST viewer or fan. But Geordi Leforge is one of the more memorable characters from TNG, at least for a not so regular viewer like myself

Hmmmmmm! Being a Man of 'color' ( hate that saying by the way!), I'm mixed race, I gotta say although I grew up being a fan of Michael Jackson, it was the 80's after all. I'm not a big fan of him being number 1, as Hanso so rightly put it he died white, he spent half of his life trying to become white, can't we have some-one who was more comfortable in their own skin?  Me I don't give 2 &%^$ what color people are, but it's nice to celebrate black history month I suppose. I would have had Morgan Freeman, not  just cause he's great, remember he was a Cowboy in Forgiven & Kevin Costner's chum in Robin Hood surely he get points for that it's genre after all and was the first time for ages that a black person was in History piece that didn't involve slavery (yawn!)

flinshadytoo, Freeman is a terrific actor.  But while Unforgiven and Robin Hood are genre films, they are the wrong genre.

I don't think anybody is going to confuse Westerns with Scifi.

While there is a certain amount of justification, I suppose, to argue that Robin Hood is fantasy, I think the intent was to make an historical picture.

I' m scratching my head why MJ is listed as Number 1 on this list.  Actually, I can't figure out why he's on the list anywhere.    In a list of importance to the horror genre, maybe.   For music videos, absolutely...but for Sci Fi (Science Fiction)?  I don't get it.    Roundtree's spot also has me confused.

I can't think of one Sci Fi film that Richard Roundtree was involved in, unless you count the 1997 Steel movie with Shaq. And Michael Jackson should definitely not be on this list. Captian Eo was a video for Disney ride.

I know I'm extremely late but you forgot to add Joe Morton. The only black in Terminator 2.He was also in a film called brother from another planet.Laurence Fishburne was Morphus in the critically acclaimed Matrix. But your right as far as Blacks being featured more often.
