The first on our OMG list are the Angry Bird Balls. Much like that of the Ugly Dolls phenomenon, the Angry Birds are spilling from one medium to another. Many of us have already seen the stuffed Angry Bird animals. This brings it a little closer to the game. I still think the balls should be based on what the birds do: Red Bird, a baseball; the giant fat red bird, a medicine ball; the yellow bird a football, and so fourth.
Zombies are quickly becoming the new vampires. In short, they are everywhere. Neecy Twinem is bringing the world of zombies to children with her Zombie Zoo. Cute and creepy, each comes with a DVD story that is illustrated and written by Neecy Twinem as well. This will make the perfect gift for kids; teaching them to be different and tolerant. It will also sell like crazy to the Goth crowd. Pictured above is Boo. Check out the complete Zombie Zoo here.
I never had Legos as cool or as wicked looking as this. The Hero Factory usually supports good guys but this one could scare Skeletor. All good heroes need a great villain and this one comes from the planet Quatros. I’m glad Lego isn’t pulling any punches here. He’ll have 331 pieces, retail for $29.99, and be completely evil.
Bif Bang Pow hit us with Twilight Zone characters last year at Toy Fair (see column). The MEGO style is perfect for the license as well as the black and white coloring. At last we will finally have a Henry Bemis figure, coming this summer. For Christmas, there will be an Art Carney as Santa Claus to make sure the meek do inherit the Earth.
Mattel stated they were trying to find a time to release this near perfect Commissioner Gordon in the likeness of Gary Oldman. They have found the time as they prepare for The Dark Knight Rises. If only they would sculpt all of Oldman’s Dracula characters next. Look for him on MattyCollector coming soon.
Last week, I showcased the prototype for the new Gremlins Spider from NECA (see column). This week, I am displaying my favorite, The Flasher. When the movie came out, there was an oversaturation of Gizmos and Stripes. The Flasher figure, I’m sure, had at least one but not anywhere as close to the perfection that NECA is going to deliver here.
The Nerf Super Soaker line looks as if it is right from District 9. Cool, sleek, and totally badass. Whether you are going to war against your roommates or the other kids in the neighborhood, the Tornado Strike Water Blaster should be your weapon of choice. Be on the look out for the new Nerf Vortex line of blasters coming 9.10.11.
I am a huge Green Lantern fan and Zodac was my all time favorite Masters of the Universe figure. OMG this two pack was made for me. I missed out on the original run of the Zodac figures from MattyCollector (see column) and my last GL figure was the original from DC Direct. Is it time for an upgrade? Hell Yes!
The only Tron Legacy toy I picked up was the identity disc. The rest of the toys did nothing really for me. The only other Tron Legacy thing I did get was the music by Daft Punk. It was a score unto itself. When I saw these 12 inch figures of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter I decided that at least two more items of memorabilia were necessary. They are already available for order on Entertainment Earth.com.
First we had General Zod, in perfect Terrance Stamp likeness, from MattyCollector. Then nothing more came of the line. It seemed odd to me that Zod should come out and no Superman. Then on December 15, 2010 Christopher Reeves as Superman was available. Now we have the “greatest criminal mind of our time” Lex Luthor. Again MattyCollector delivers a perfect likeness of the actor who played him, Gene Hackman. Look for him in April 2011. Hopefully they will re-release the other two figures in the line.
