Funny article, Joe.  At #10, 8 and 7, I wanted Jango Fettworthy to have a shaggy moustache on his helmet.

I think sometimes people don't fully understand what a film director does. George Lucas is not at all a terrible director so much as he is a technically brilliant one who is not always so great at directing actors. From what I've seen and read, he seems to expect the actors to largely come to the table with a fully realized character themselves.

I'm a Star Wars geek from way back, and I really liked the prequels overall, but I thought there were a few cringe-worthy acting moments. If you compare the strong performances of Liam Neeson and Ewen McGregor to some of the other, younger, less experienced actors, you can see a real difference. It's not that they were bad actors, there's just a certain type of collaborative actor/director effort that was missing.

Yes there was clunky dialog, but an experienced actor can either make it sing, or be confident enough to call the director on it. Ultimately, however, the director is responsible for what goes on screen, so yes, it is a weakness, but I don't think it makes George Lucas a terrible director.

Funny article Joe,

I like the prequels ok, especially #3, except Hobs is right, Hayden can't act.

Ewan MacGregor carried all 3 of these movies, Liam helped with the first one.

Wow dude get help. This was as funny as a carpet stain. Are you protesting the Lesbian non school sponsored prom as well?

Trying to pretend to lauh and not lie about the crap here is just making me more and more pissier.

Yiu mean "Was a  technical director"  now he just has an expensive computer program.

Die Lucas and give Star Wars back to the fans which you are not one of.

George Lucas is a great world creator but a weak storyteller, at least in Episodes I & II.  Right from the opening crawl:

Turmoil has engulfed the
Galactic Republic. The taxation
of trade routes to outlying star
systems is in dispute.

Hoping to resolve the matter
with a blockade of deadly
battleships, the greedy Trade
Federation has stopped all
shipping to the small planet
of Naboo

How does a "greedy Trade Federation" profit from blockading a small planet?  They are blocking shipping TO Naboo, so it's not like their goal is to make other planets miss some unique Naboo exports.  Why would this kind of behavior convince anyone in the Senate to reduce trade route taxes?   Is there some specific import that Naboo needs badly?  If so, not much is said about it.  (Oh sure, maybe the Sith made the Trade Federation do it.  But Sidious/Palpatine supposed to be an evil genius, so his plans should make sense.)  And why start an adventure story mainly for kids with a tax dispute anyway?

I thought Ep I was ok as a kid's movie and special effects showcase, but trying to follow any logic in the story is not possible.

There's always this 70-minute review if you want a whole lot of convincing:

I like this list. What I think is that George Lucas used to be a good storyteller when he was an independent director. After all, we all seem to like the original trilogy the best, and he wrote those. Ever since 1997 it's been downhill in storytelling quality for the Star Wars movies. If they ever do make new Star Wars films, he's going to need help writing them, because he proved even by having Steven Spielberg direct the fourth Indiana Jones movie that it still suffers from his inability to tell a damn story.

I've said it before and I'll say it until the day I die:  Star Wars didn't change, the audience did.

I love all six of the Star Wars movies, hell I love all SEVEN!  But I enjoy a good paraody, nothing and no one is above being poked fun at.

But the blantant and unjustified hate toward Lucas is outrageous.  How dare he creat the first CGI character.  I know Jar-Jar was annoying but its a big galaxy, not every creature can be a bad-ass.  Without Jar-Jar there would be no Gollum, Dobby or Na'vi.  Do you hate the man for being smart enough to ensure that Star Wars remained his property?  That's genius.  Admit you're jealous.  There have got to be dozens of directors and filmmakers that lay awake at night wishing they could hold onto their properties the way Lucas has.

Oh, and all my Star Wars action figures are Hasbro...sorry...

Im all for the Documentary, Big Star Wars Fan here! I think though that Lucas definitely lost touch with when he first made Star Wars - (Episode 4 as we know it today). Too much comedy (Jar Jar, Battle Droids). Two many revisions to the movies (Particularly Ep4) which alot werent necessary! You just cant always say that the Films are a work in progress when their already out. Never the less I am thankful that he did create the Star Wars Universe! The thing is I know he wants to move on to other things but he has to just face the fact that his greatest contribution to society will always be Star Wars, so why not just finish that Legacy? Make Episode 7-9 and be done with it. Oh and a major tip make them all back to back. None of that Damn 3 year hiatus bull. Also since they will be the last (as far as we know) he should bite his tongue and make them 3 hours long hahahahaha.

When I was young I had it in my mind that Kenobi had Clones of himself and other Jedi in the Clone Wars, that would have been awesome but I guess it didnt go that route. Leia used her Jedi abilities to remember that her mother was sad rather than weak and about to die! hahaha. Tsk Tsk. Now we know that if you have a drop ship full of Ewoks you can win any battle! Oootttiiiiddiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.

Pretty entertaining article...the only thing that pisses me off is the Jeff Foxworthy format...blue collar comedy should not be legitimized in any way...YOU'RE NOT HELPING, MANIA!...just kidding...OR AM I?...no really...
