monkeyfoot I apologize, I'm assuming you're referring to my post. Sorry I spoiled an 80 year old book, no sarcasm intended......well a little sarcasm intended :)

hanso, I'm assuming that this list basically says they can screw up everything else

In their defense, the trolls in LOTR were either supposed to be babies (like the one in the mines) or too busy working to speak.

As for 48 FPS.  If anybody has that "MotionFlow" feature on their TV, it will look like that.

The thing that really, seriously worries me are the stakes.  If these films were made in reverse order (The Hobbit first, the Lord of the Rings second) the stakes would get increasingly higher.  But The Lord of the Rings is about the possible end of the world, and the Hobbit is about some dwarves getting their gold back.  I don't know how this won't feel like a letdown.

//Jackson also has to delicately explain that the Necromancer is Sauron without taking his eye off the dragon//

Does he?

@LadyBrowncoat:  The Hobbit was also a children's book.

Agree. Hated the DVD release of the theatrical versions, only to wait months and months later for the extended cuts. But, the good thing New Line (or Peter Jackson) did for us fans was to let us know that extended cuts were on the way, well before the release of the theatrical cuts on DVD. In fact, the theatrical cut DVDs had coupons included that you could have applied towards the purchase of the extended cuts.

Some directors did that for some of their features, warning people that the 1st release were strictly the rental copies. James Cameron (Avatar), Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous), PJ (LOTR) and even Kevin Smith (Dogma), told their fans to not buy the first release.

Since the rental market is now pretty much dead, I sure hope the studios/directors learned their lessons and just cut to the chase to release a super edition right away. We'll see by next year,

I figured that's the case Wise, but still like to see a list saying "The soundtrack, fuck it they can screw it up"  "Bilbo's house"  Fu.k it, no one cares" etc, etc.

@wallyrus - I don't think he does have to explain it. It can be hinted at but not explained plainly to us, if PJ wants. I trust PJ to tell a good story either way.

There were a lot of things that weren't explained in the LOTR trilogy, that I had to research myself to figure it out, and I'm OK with that.
