i think The Mist is the best.  it just goes to show that the Crazy old lady in the store was right...to a degree.  Don't give up faith.  The second they all gave up faith, look what happened.

I haven't seen Abyss in a while and never saw special edition so my memory is a bit foggy but if i remember correctly we had no idea what those creatures were in the original release then they choose to surface, no one gets the bends, and nothing gets explained.  The End....WTF.

Though the more I thnk about it maybe that should go into the worst endings of all time.  But to be fair before the Cameron leg humpers get on my case, I hear the special edition explains everything so you are not going WTF at the end.  Haven't seen it so I don't know.

You want a WTF ending? See "Cemetary Man" (aka Dellamorte Dellamore) starring Rupert Everett. What starts out as a twisted zombie movie/serial killer movie ends as a Fellini film.

I think the author meant WTF in a "bad" way.

The Mist clearly dominates this. Sat through all their survival only for an ending like that? Was that a joke? Were we supposed to feel what the guy was feeling? Yelling right with him? Seriously?

It's not that I want stars to survive. It's more like a return on investement.

Their deaths should be more dramatic/better written than their survival. Not the other way around.

What about Fraility and Seven should be on this list as well as In The Mouth Of Madness

Saw I was for me the ultimate WTF Ending...

Nobody mentioned 2001.  And in a similar vein, how about The Black Hole?  Both of those endings were very strange, in a similar way.

DaForce1 4/23/2010 11:22:05 AM

Actually, Prince of Darkness (John Carpenter) had a very WTF ending too.

Indeed karas1, 2001. If I remember correctly, the book did a more thorough job of ending the story.
