Over 100,000 excited fans lined the streets of New Zealand's captial city of Wellington today as the stars and filmmakers of THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy attended a celebration parade marking the premiere of the film's final chapter, THE RETURN OF THE KING. Stars Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood were greeted by the masses with claps and cheers as they were transported in cars flanked by horsemen decked out in the costumes used in the movies.
Wellington has gone insane with RETURN OF THE KING mania. Giant banners showcasing the film adorn skyrises while posters for the film are seemingly plastered on every street corner.
"I'm feeling incredibly humbled by this wonderful reception," director Peter Jackson said at the movie's premiere. "You feel like you're the first people to land on the moon or something."
If you can get there The One Ring.net has photos from the Wellington premiere; the site's being swamped with traffic making the pages slow to load, if not impossible for the moment.
