13 comic book artists. One scary dude in a hockey mask...Each day Comics2Film @ Mania.com presents a new original work by a comic book artist in anticipation of the opening of the new 'Friday The 13th' movie!
Day 11: As Friday draws closer, animation great Kelsey Shannon draws Yetis, Vampires, Hulks, Demons...and Jason! But first, we draw blood with our 13 nefarious questions!
1. What is your favorite Friday the 13th / Jason movie and why?
I’d have to say it’s when he became the movie monster that we all know and love, I think in the third film when he’s got the mask. I also like 'Jason Takes Manhattan' because it’s just silly.
2. What is your favorite horror movie?
'The Thing'. Without a doubt.
3. What is your favorite moment in all of the Friday the 13th film, comics, TV, etc stories?
I don’t really have a favorite moment, but there’s this awesome cover for 'Jason Vs Leatherface' painted by Simon Bisley. I think it’s one of the coolest images I’ve ever seen. It’s burned into my brain.
4. Arrow through the throat or machete in the head?
Machete in the head. I hate feeling like I can’t breath. Plus I heard that the brain can’t feel so it probably wouldn’t hurt that much before you die.
5. Jason vs WHO? And why?
Jason Vs the Argonauts. Come on! That would be hilarious!
6. Tell us about your unluckiest moment.
I walked into a Denny’s and saw this wickedly cute girl sitting by herself wearing, of all things, a Star Wars hat. I just had to talk to her, so I broke the ice with, of course, Star Wars. I told her that I just got the new Star Wars Trivia Pursuit game and I can’t wait to play it with someone. She said she’s great at Star Wars trivia and would marry any guy that could answer this one question.
It was like I was sitting before the Oracle of hot nerdness.
I was all like “ yeah, bring it on baby! I got this!” The question was, “What is the name of Luke’s aunt? This was in the can. I knew the answer and this girl was all mine. I said, “that’s an easy one. It’s Uncle Owen and Aunt… Aunt Be, crap I know this. “
I couldn’t for the life of me remember. She quickly lost interest and all her friends showed up right at that moment and I was out. That’s a horror story to me. Damn she was hot.
7. Tell us about your most horrific camping experience.
The experience of taking a crap in the woods and dropping the TP in a puddle of water. I don’t even like to think about it. I was hoping Jason would pop out and have mercy on me by putting that machete in my brain.
8.If you ever decided to become an iconic horror figure, what would you wear on your face and what would your weapon of choice be?
I would dress up like Smokey the Bear and kill people with fire. I love irony.
9.On which special day would you do your killing?
10.But, sadly, you're not an iconic horror figure, just a comic book artist. Tell us about some of your recently-published works...
The horror is my publishing career. I’m all over the place.
11.What's next? Tell us about your upcoming work...
I’m finishing up a four issue series with Antarctic Press called 'Yeti Vs. Vampire'. My sketchbooks are also coming out from Antarctic called 'Scribbles'. In addition to those I’m doing covers for Miles Gunter’s new book 'Demon Cleaner' and I’m illustrating a 'Hulk' story written by Adam Warren.
It’s been a busy year and it’s not going to get any slower.
12.What's your dream project?
I kind of wish I was Paul Pope. He just does what he wants and people love him for it.
13.Where can fans find your stuff on the web?
'Friday the 13th' opens today...Friday the 13th. Visit FridayThe13thMovie.com for more fun with Jason!
