I don't think so. Dirty Dancing??!  Not a guilty pleasure, cuz I wouldn't be caught dead watching it...

How can Flash Gordon be a guilty pleasure.  He saved everyone one of us....

Okay, yes Flash Gordon is a guilty pleasure.  Go, Flash Go! Go Flash Go...

Equalibrium, should be one.....I feel like the movie should suck, and in some ways it kind of does, not the visually most striking movie, but damn does it work.  But there is no guilt.

Soldier, is my guilty pleasure movie.  It's a movie with some serious scenes, and great lines.  Kurt Russell has all the great lines, delivered so matter of factly and simply.

Da Hot Mama: "But one soldier against 17, what are you going to do?"

Todd:  "I'm going to kill them all, Sir."

It's simple, in some ways kind of feels cheap, but it works.  It's not

After I got done watching Soldier in the theatre I wanted to go to the box office and demand they take more of my money and give it to those people who made such a work of art.  It is not your typical happy ending movie.

They stay pretty true to the character they created in Todd.  Most people who would have seen it would have wanted to see him and the little kid become best buds, maybe Kurt hooks up with the kids Mom.

I am now elevating it to my third favorite movie of all time.  Thanks for writing this list.

DarkXid, if you wanted to give them more money you should have bought more tickets to see the film.  You wouldn't have had to watch it again, but buying the tickets would have given them more money and promoted the film by inflating it's box office take.

Just sayin'...

jedibanner, we should see Thelma And Louise together.  It's a bonafide chick flick about female bonding with car chases, armed robberies and rapes.  And hey!  Brad Pitt without a shirt!  It's like the perfect film.

It's not a guilty pleasure though.  It's a genuinely great movie with all kinds of Oscar nominations.

When you say "guilty pleasure with Oscar?" do you mean you hated it and don't know why I would like it or do you mean you think it's a good film and shouldn't be a "guilty" pleasure?

I don't know about this Dirty Dancing fixation though.  Patrick Swazye and Molly Ringwald dancing in the Catskills.  Maybe we should reexamine that man card of yours.  ;-P

Actually, while I don't hate Pretty Woman, I'm not sure it has any pretentions to being a genre movie of any kind.  Perhaps for these lists Hanso should stick to scifi/fantasy or at least something that isn't as agressivly mainstream as Pretty Woman.

Kara...yeah, Thelma & Louise is a good movie (saw it to please my other half...in those days I was more willing)....but not sure I could watch it for a 2nd time . Agree It wouldn't be a guilty pleasure for sure.

Oscar? Didn't hate it but, don't think it's that good, could not watch it for a second time for sure.

Dirty Dancing? it's the music that makes this fun to watch, not the actors (and it's not Molly Ringwald in that movie, it's what's her name who played in Red Dawn with sweazy)...but, in my defense, I own this movie because, all girls like it so, to have it at home always ''shows'' my emotional side to the ladies (HA, how's that for my man card,  :-P   )

100000% agree with you Ks1, this list of guilty pleasure should've been kept to sci-fy, horror or fantasy category and no mainstream, chick-flick, touchy feeling categories.

*examines jedibanner's man card and hands it back*  Well, OK.  If you just keep it around as a seduction tool.  It's been so long since I saw Dirty Dancing I barely remember it.  But I have to admit I'm not chomping at the bit to see it again.

The first time I saw Oscar I almost literally fell of the couch laughing.  And so did the 2 friends I was with.  Tim Curry alone was worth the price of admission but there were so many really funny things.  And Stallone was such a great straight man for all these wacky characters to bounce off of!  I've seen it so many times that I'm expecting all the jokes so it isn't as funny any more but I still think it's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.  But if it doesn't float your boat it's OK.  It's a matter of taste.

The one thing I noticed as a kid when watching Flash Gordon was Ming pressing the earthquake button on his console then asking Klytus what this planet was called. Klytus replies, "Earth". Don't know the name of the planet but you have a EARTHQUAKE button?

4 pages too late, but I agree with kara's Twister nomination.

Recently revisited Flash Gordon, and it sucks ass...but I love it.

I'd also like to add Hellraiser III and IV.  Hellraiser III had a pre Jadzia Dax Terry Farrel and showed the secret origin of Pinhead.  Hellraiser IV showed the secret origin of the puzzle box and took place in the past, the present and the future.  From pre-revolutionary France to a space station in orbit around another planet.  They weren't very good movies, but I still liked the.

YES, GOT MY MAN-CARD BACK, thanks karas1 (but..wouldn't a reall man not care???...DOH!!), never mind that...pfff...who needs a man card anyway...now let's go watch some gun-toot'in, blow'em-up crazy car chase movie while eating my 15oz steak with fries and NO veggies....and later watch Toy Story with the kid.

Well, for me, i'd like to add all of the Friday the 13th sequels as guilty pleasures because, they suck but it's still fun to watch the people die in horrible ways and it's the 80's so, people were dressed funny in those days. I've never been a big fan of Halloween but Jason, hes the man and a big MF that can't be killed.
