Who knew that it would come from Conan O’Brien himself! Regardless, Conan Tweeted the news that finally Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will distribute the long-awaited BATMAN live-action television series (1966-68) as a complete box set. When can we get this set? Sometime later in 2014. Check out both the Tweet and a picture of the late night ham below (photo by Will Becton).
Details on the box set have yet to be revealed.
Personally, I have been watching this old series lately and reading the comic by Jeff Parker. The new comic pays great tribute to the Dynamic Duo and the TV series holds up. It is amazing the cast of actors they assembled for this series. The supplemental material better be killer!

This is great news for sure and looking forward to adding this to my collection. I grew up with this show. :)

Although I sure hope they come out on blu-ray. I pretty much pass on DVD only releases.

And yes Rob, you are correct. I read that too and I think it was Rich Johnston's old Lying in the Gutters column. Fox sued WB when the movie was released and got something in the settlement (profits) but there were rumblings that the rights to Batman TV series was involved.

The reason it took so long is that the original contracts for these shows were for TV release only and not home video. So I'm guessing they had to rework new deals with families, estates, actors, directors, etc...

This will look fantastic in HD so I'm assuming it will be on blu.

This is from TVshowsOnDvD several years ago:

That-pie needs to be divided up by more than 2 parties, which is the REAL negotiation hold-up. CBR might be correct in that Fox is using the Watchmen situation to try to leverage Batman rights from DC Comics. Oh, we doubt Fox would have gone into that lawsuit with this in mind...someone probably thought of it along the way. But even if that does end up in things getting worked out with DC, it doesn't mean that all the hurdles are cleared for a DVD release of the 1966 Batman television program. And the whole time they work on all of these other rights, Fox has to be careful and make sure each agreement made is financially sensible, so they won't have to charge a billion bucks per season for any eventual DVD release. It's a LOT of work for them to do...years and years worth of work. How far along are they so far?

About damn time.

Well, THAT certainly took long enough.
About 10 years after Conan O'Brien ceased being funny and about three years before he finally drinks himself to death.
