1st RoboCop Trailer

Where are the fun parts?

By Robert T. Trate     September 06, 2013
Source: Cinema Blend

The first trailer for the new RoboCop has arrived. It is packed full of action and actors that we all recognize. The one thing that seems to be missing is the sense of humor that the original had. “I’d but that for a dollar” and the commercials had better be in the finish film. Perhaps this first trailer is to hook in the people that have never heard of RoboCop?
The Plot: In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
The film stars Joel Kin, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. The film is directed by Jose Padilha.
RoboCop arrives February 7th, 2014.

Watching this trailer, I can't help but see the same look as the Total Recall remake.  Nice shiny new special effects to ooh and ahh over, but none of the grit and dark humour that made the original so unforgetable.  I still want a 6000 SUX.  I will still go see it, as I just watched the Robocop trilogy again just a couple of weeks ago to get it all fresh in memory.  Fingers crossed that they get enough right with this to make a decent remake.

If I hadn't grown up with the original, this would look pretty good.  It still looks ok.  I do wish someone would lay the smack down on all these trailers that reveal too much though.  Then again if a director can't put together a trailer that makes people interested in seeing his movie without telling you the whole story, then it's probably not worth seeing anyway.

Loved the original and the first sequel...very interested in seeing this remake.    The revenge factor was the important selling point for me in '80's movies, as well as just "making the bad guys pay"...and pay convincingly.

I kind of agree with the both of you. It looks good. The trailer is done well to give me a sense of the story and I like what I'm seeing. It looks like they've made appropriate changes to the idea to make it new. They are not going the humorous/horrendous view of society route they did in Verhoven's version.

I will of course see it. There is no question. But personally, I would rather somebody be inspired by the original to make their own story and not just renovate the other. But this is how Hollywood works. This is the "business" that's made from the "show."

I thought it would stink until I watched this trailer. Looks good.

Right, Right with all so far on this it does look good even if it won't have the gore the original had, still looks cool.  Robocop looks good, I have no problem with how he looks and I don't compare him with anything because he's Robocop, ...

swisshammer 9/6/2013 8:40:31 AM

I still think it will stink. Something still seems weak about this film.

monkeyfoot 9/6/2013 8:45:00 AM

I really don't want to see the gore that was in the first. When Murphy was literally shot to pieces in the original it toally made me sick. I still don't look at it.

DarthBob 9/6/2013 8:46:57 AM

Not too bad; might turn out to be half decent after all!

aegrant 9/6/2013 8:56:01 AM

I'd buy that for a dollar
