2001 Delayed (The Movie, Not the Year, Obviously)
Plus: Queen Honors Patrick Stewart; 2000 Box Office Records, 2001 Star Honored.

Avid science-fiction fans in New York and Los Angeles may be wondering what happened to the promised release of 2001: A Space Odyssey,
which was supposed to take place in the two cities on the dawn of the new millennium, including a schedule three-week run in L.A.'s venerable Nuart Theatre. Well, if you wasted your time checking your local listings this weekend, we're sorry, but the re-release has been pushed back. It seems that more work needs to be done on restoring prints for distribution, so the film won't make it to big screens until sometime in the middle of the year. Although we appreciate MGM's commitment to presenting the film in the best form possible, we do have to wonder about the delay. After all, it's not as if a release timed to match the film's title should have been a big surprise that creeped up on everyone.
