Bale's gut and hair piece at the beginning of American Hustle are worthy of an Oscar.

Wiseguy 1/16/2014 7:38:28 AM

I second that Miner

Bale was good in this movie but I fail to see it as a best picture movie.

I saw it last week and it was just "meh". Overexposed Jennifer Lawrence was just "meh". Adams was not bad and Cooper was ok. I felt as I watched this movie, something big was going to happen. Never did. I guess we all have different taste.

Lone Ranger got a nomination? LOL! Isn't that the first movie to ever get an Oscar and Razzie nom in the same year?

PhillipBrian 1/16/2014 8:32:59 AM

Thank you Oscar. Now that these announcements have been made my local theater will finally show Dallas Buyers Club and 12 Years a Slave.

violator14 1/16/2014 9:07:18 AM

LOL phillipbrian.

Baz-cant believe you just said ,"Overexposed Jennifer Lawrence was just "meh"." .... makes me wonder... hmmm

I just hope Gravity wins alot of awards. At the very least i think Alfonso should take the Oscar for directing for SURE.

Haven't seen Wolf of Wallstreet, but Leonardo deserves an Oscar on general principal alone for ALL his work and all the times he got passed at these fukking things. Unfortunately i have a feeling it will be Matthew or Christian to take it home even tho i havent seen American Hustle or Dallas Buyers Club. Anybody that has seen almost all these films have an opinion on best actor?

And i hope Hobbit wins some sort of sound award for Smaug alone.

I think Gravity was good but way too over-hyped.  Some of the CG looked very awkward like the pens and stuff floating around the space capsules.  Also the movements in the space suits looked like they were animated (and they were).  Not say it's not a good flick at all, but not worth the hype.  I do wish I could've seen this in 3D Imax, but I only had the chance to see it in a regular theater.  Perhaps my opinion would be different, but I doubt it.

violator14 1/16/2014 9:45:53 AM

Ya, you would definitely be singing a different tune if u saw it in 3D Imax.

shac2846 1/16/2014 10:00:24 AM

Gravity was made to be seen in 3d IMAX. You probably did miss something. Most reviews I've read and from what other people have told me American Hustle is like Eibaz said all build up to nothing. Great performances but the movie doesn't go anywhere. It's the only nomination I haven't seen except Her. Going to see both Hustle and Her this weekend. All the other flicks were really good. Captain Phillips really is excellent maniacs if you haven't seen it you should.

CalamityJohnson 1/16/2014 10:36:23 AM

How the hell did Tom Hanks get gypped of a nomination for best actor in Capt Phillips? Holy Hell...

ElBaz13 1/16/2014 11:27:13 AM

Don't get me wrong, I love Jennifer Lawrence. Loved her debut in Winter's Bone which she got an Oscar nom. That also gave her the Katniss role from Hunger Games which I liked.  i just feel the press/media is hyping her too much. She's good...but not that good.  Kind of what the media/press did with Julia Roberts year's ago as "America's sweetheart" but yet her roles are just so-so.

As for American Hustle. I'm not saying it was a terrible movie. I just thought as I watched it, any given moment, I would get a crazy plot twist or something. The standards of screen writing (exposition - rising action - climax - falling action - resolution) were there but they weren't that strong. I do have to give credit to both Christian Bale and Amy Adams. They were rock solid.
