For this Maniac it still seems strange that Disney is now the keeper of some many of his favorite properties. In the past it used to be Pixar and the occasional Jerry Bruckheimer project. Now the mouse has Marvel, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones. So when the mouse announces its slate of movies, this Maniac takes notice. Here is the official slate for Walt Disney Pictures in 2014.

April 4, 2014 – Captain America: The Winter Soldier

April 18, 2014 – Bears

May 16, 2014 – Million Dollar Arm

May 30, 2014 – Maleficent

July 18, 2014 – Planes Fire & Rescue

August 1, 2014 – Guardians of the Galaxy

August 8, 2014 – The Hundred-Foot Journey

October 10, 2014 – Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

November 7, 2014 – Big Hero 6

November 21, 2014 – McFarland

December 25, 2014 – Into the Woods

Big Hero 6 and Guardians of the Galaxy are the two big kickstarts to new franchises. What are you excited for Maniacs?

Really curious to see how Big Hero 6 is promoted

What's this Big Hero 6 about?

RobertTrate 1/3/2014 1:23:06 PM

It is based on the Marvel Comic Sunfire and the Big Hero 6

Forget Big Hero 6, I still wish they would make a Bionic Six movie.  That could really be cool, but I suspose they would end up dumbing it down for the kiddos and go more the Thunderbirds route.  (I actually liked the Thunderbirds film for what it was, though.)

Winter Soldier is by far my most anticipated film.  I am intrigued by GotG, but I was less than impressed with the footage I saw at SDCC.  It looked like it may be more of a comedy than an action film.  That could have just been outtakes/test footage I saw, so we'll see.  Still looking forward to it.

Captain America: The First Avenger has been my favorite Marvel movie to date.

I saw concept art for Big Hero 6 and it looks pretty sweet. In the hands of Disney, it will be most awesome.

First Disney/Marvel animated project. Sadly, no Sunfire thanks to stupid rights at Fox. :(

I don't get that.  The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver made their debuts int he X-Men books, yet somehow they are able to use them in the Avengers movie....yet Sunfire, whom made a handful of appearances over the last 40 years would be off limits.  Granted, Quicksilver and SS became the second team of Avengers way back in the day...but the fact remains that they appeared in the X-Men first...so I don't understand why Fox doesn't own them exclusively.  Now Wolverine I get.  He was the gem in the crown of the X-Empire so I can understand that even though he is an Avenger now, there really is no claim for Marvel to use him....but again...the mutant twins still appeared first in the X-titles.

Actually, speaking on that note....How far does Fox's rights stretch in regards to what characters they own?  I mean what is the criteria?  Do they have to pay for the rights every so many years?  Or did they pay once and they share a cut of the profits with Marvel for as long as they can keep the ball afloat?   I only ask out of sheer curiosity.  Is there a list of characters that Fix has that says "You own the original x-men and characters who have joined the group up to this date plus all major villains and supporting characters" so they know they have access to Moira MacTaggert and Nimrod....but they don't get to have access to Dr. Doom because while he is a major player...he only ran afoul of the X-Men once or twice and cannot be considered an X-men villain exlusively.

Case in point, The Kingpin.  He was a Spider-Man villain and they butted heads a few times....yet most people see him as Daredevil's arch-nemesis and he appeared in the Daredevil movie...yet no one from Sony flipped their wigs when they should have had a pretty solid claim to the character.  ::shrugs::
