The Avengers are about to assemble as Marvel and Hasbro are prepping for two of the biggest superhero movies of all time. At the 2011 Toy Fair in New York City Hasbro debuted toys that will stock the shelves with enough Captain America and Thor to drive kids and collectors crazy. Fear not, if you are a fan of Tony Stark and his armor, there will be a plethora of new Iron Man toys as well. Street dates are not far off (Thor 3-1-11 and Captain America 5-16-11) and even more toys were promised to debut at the San Diego Comic Con in July.

The Marvel Universe Line
This line continues to get better and better. Look for these figures to arrive in April. The chase figure to buy is Cable with Baby Hope. There will be an abundance at the beginning, but eventually Baby Hope will be phased out. There also will be variants of Doctor Strange (astral form) and DarkHawk. If you are or were a fan of the Marvel Legends line Hasbro announced they will return in 2012.

Captain America: The First Avenger
There is a ton of just Captain America figures coming. Sadly, there were no Hydra Soldiers on display or even a picture of the Red Skull action figure. Though Hasbro was gracious enough to show us Cap’s tank (not pictured).

Thor: The Mighty Avenger
The big difference between Captain America and Thor at Toy Fair were the amount of additional characters in the line. Thor is ripe with warriors and villains where Cap had just Cap.

Marvel Role Play Gear
There are tons of Thor hammers and Cap shields coming. Though it is about time Hasbro had a Spider-Man mask. After all, next year is the year of the Amazing Spider-Man.

Last year it was Galactus as the SDCC exclusive. Now a Sentinel will be the giant carded figure to pick up (complete with Wolverine). How many will you pick up? Better yet, will you bring it back on the plane or ship it home?

As impressive as the Hasbro Marvel lines are, I have to wonder why there are no X-Men First Class figures. Hasbro did in fact announce that there are no plans for toys at this time. There will be figures that celebrate X-Men First Class but no official line. This is actually the fifth film in the saga for Fox Studios and the X-Men. There have been toys for all of the previous films. Is this a more serious approach or have early rushes of the film told Hasbro and Marvel to save their money?

Finally the Sentinel figure is incredible but doesn’t it diminish the Galactus of last year? It is a great looking toy and of X-Men lore. Which again leads me to ask: Sentinel yes, X-Men First Class no?

The reason Hasbro isn't offering First Class toys is because the movie production started so late, they didn't have time to develop the line and get it into stores to tie in to the film's release. It takes about a year to make these things from concept to shelf and the film was rushed by Fox so that the rights wouldn't revert back to Marvel.

However, Diamond Select is offering Minimates thanks to the relatively simple nature of the format and the ability to harvest existing parts.

Also keep in mind that this is a busy summer for Hasbro. They've got Thor, Transformers 3, and Captain America all hitting within three months. That doesn't include maintaining the Spider-Man line, the GI Joe line, the Marvel Universe line, and their biggest cash cow of 2010 Star Wars. At least Hasbro has comic-based tie-ins for First Class so they're not completely ignoring it.

not only did hasbro not have time to make xmen first class toys due to the rush job fox did with the film. but proably had so much other stuff from thor, and cap , and the mu not to mention spider man again.t hat hasbro proably ran out of time to try and do xmen first class.  not to mention if the film should tank hasbro wuld take a hit toy wise. plus can not believe that  Hasbro managed to figure out how to do dark hawk. with out him turning out to be junky. marvel Legends can not wait to see who ushers in its return.
