22 Episodes and done for "Battlestar Galactica"?

According to Syfyportal, if SciFi Channel increases the fourth season order of Battlestar Galactica from 13 to 22 episodes, the extra 8 episodes will be used to end the series.

"If you're a fan, you don't want to see any more than 13 episodes," the source said. "Questions are going back and forth on whether or not [SciFi Channel] will pick the show up again. It's not a decision you make at the last minute because obviously [the network] will want to allow the show to wrap up."

SciFi Channel gave the green light for another season earlier this month, ordering "at least" 13 episodes. There was some speculation that this was only a partial order, with producer David Weddle telling SyFy Portal soon after the announcement that the network was still trying to decide whether it would order 13 episodes or 22.

"Not every show gets an opportunity like this," the source said. "The 'Battlestar' story could have ended right then and there at the end of the fourth [season], but having these episodes in their hip pocket, [SciFi Channel] can let the show end on the producers' terms."

You can read Syfyportal's full article over here.

KJ's Take:  It makes sense.  Let the season play out, if ratings are strong enough, let it go, if not, order another 8 episodes and let the producers know to wrap everything up.  I suppose it's a rather classy way to kill off a hit series, if such a thing is possible.

This show NEEDS to continue. It's the best show on TV bar none. If Sci Fi ends this they are making a big mistake.

Like I said in other posts, I`m just going ignore any idiotic, fucktard comments from kjsucks6996. This is a good way to end it. Hopefully, this is a new trend, and maybe networks will start to realize that its better not to milk a show until no one is watching and let it end on its own terms. Some shows are so good, especially in this genre that they can`t last forever, but they need to end on a good note. With 22 final episodes, SciFi is allowing BSG and Ron Moore to do that.

I faded out from this series and have skipped the past two "filler" episodes. We were enjoying the baltar storylines from the first two seasons and now I just can't connect with any of it anymore. It just got too gloomy and the comic relief became too sparse for too long. It's like living in Vancouver, BC for the month of January where it rains for nearly the entire month and the gray skies and rain just get to you after a while. I'll give the series another try with the next episode but we really need some umph again. And something happy? Just even a little bit? Giving it an 8 episode concluding extension sounds good though... sort of wish they'd done that with the 1979 series. I'm starting to miss that series again.

Well I guess this means they will find Earth. I wonder if they are going to let it be our time or distant past or future? If it's future it will be war scared to give us a "message" probably.

Sounds fair to me. I said it about Lost, and I'll say it about BG - give the producers a specific deadline and let them work to resolve the storylines within that timeframe, and I believe the viewers will be rewarded in the end. This forces the producers and writers to be more focused on propelling the story to its conclusion. Once given a deadline, I think most producers suddenly realize that they have a lot more story to tell than they thought they did. For instance, JMS wrote the fourth season of Babylon 5 believing it to be the last one, and he crammed two seasons worth of story into that one season, resulting in one of the most powerful single seasons of sci-fi on TV.

Hey pony - at this point we might as well do what most did for spyder back on the cinescape forums (fitting I add this comment in the BSG story). Just ignore this little asshat toad and move ahead. He's only here to spew idiotic bile. Feeding the troll only gives his pathetic existence on this board meaning. Anyone who starts his profile listing everything he feels "sucks" really only wants to establish himself above the rest and spew stupidity. His screen name is enough to warrant an ignore (can we get that function on here Mania?). I swear this is all AOL's fault. They must be closing down the 12-13yearold forums and this cuntrag has found a new home here.

As far as BSG - if there was an end in sight for this it would be nice to see SciFi end it with some sort of decent closure - Considering what a fan I was of Farscape it seems like they learned from their previous mistake with that series. With the ending possibly in sight I hope the focus moves back to the main storyline and the filler episodes go away... They've been OK (particularly this last weeks) but they need to get back to the main...

Is an "Ignore Dumbass" feature for the Comments section too much to ask for? My wife watches this show pretty religiously, so she'll be disappointed if they cut it off early. Trust Sci-Fi to do that though, as they did the same with Farscape.
