Dana Walsh Still Isn’t Interesting But Everyone Else Is!

You know last week it seemed like the Dana Walsh story might be getting a little more interesting. The reality is that it felt more interesting because it was barely on screen. A bit more time was given to the story this week and it the story just falls flat again. Unfortunately, all of this falls on Katee Sackhoff’s shoulders. She’s just not entertaining to watch on this show. She was great on Battlestar Galactica but on 24 she feels like a fish out of water in the worst possible way. The good news is that everything else that happens in this hour of 24 is riveting!

The meat of the episode comes from Jack trying to convince Marcos not to blow himself up. Chloe was able to deactivate the detonator to Marcos’ explosive vest last week but Marcos was able to learn from his compatriots how to blow himself up manually by connecting some random looking wires and activating some LED lights. Jack doesn’t want the boy to die of course but he also hopes to learn something from him about the terrorists that are planning to set off a nuclear weapon in Manhattan. Of course, CTU learns that Marcos is American born and his mother lives in Harlem. The obvious decision is to use her as a tool to guilt Marcos into giving in to the authorities. Elaine, Marcos’ mother is played by 80’s brat packer (sort of) Mare Winningham. The scene with Elaine and her son was gut wrenching and easily the best scene of the episode and one of the best of the season. Winningham is awesome in the scene but so is Rami Malek as Marcos. Marcos is the product of a father with “complicated” political opinions who eventually committed suicide. This scene ends with a lot of impact literally and figuratively. Marcos does share information that leads to one of those classic 24 twists while not unpredictable was still a lot of fun.

The gangs are all back together in this episode with Dana and Cole back at work, and Hassan and his wife back together if for no other reason than to save their daughter. Jack, of course, is in the middle cracking heads and taking names. Chloe still hasn’t been able to do very much in several episodes though. Now that Dana is officially working for Chloe, maybe she’ll get some real action. It makes sense that Dana and the rest of the main CTU staff work for Chloe considering that she and Jack work well together and Jack really doesn’t trust anyone as much as he does her. This week’s cliffhanger wasn’t quite as riveting as last week but the overall story now is so exciting that it doesn’t matter. How high ranking is this new villain in the whole conspiracy? 24  has consistently been exciting over the last three weeks and hopefully the show is on a roll that’ll stick all the way to the end of the season. Dana Walsh’s story doesn’t show any signs of getting any more interesting but it’s such a small part of the show, a diversion rather than a real story really, that it doesn’t detract from what’s turning out to be a phenomenal season of 24.

We need someone like Jack Bauer to find Osama and others like that.......and let him extract info from terrorists.  In a perfect world though.............................

After a great start and a couple slow moving episodes this season heas really kicked it into high gear.  I really didn't see the signs of the traitor in Hassan group and then they dropped the name and I kind of feel he was justified to go crazy arresting people.  I think this may prove him to go even more overboard.

And Jack is pure Jack.  And WOW to that exploding body.....poor kid!!
