24: Live Another Day Mania Review

It is frustrating when life’s happenings keep you from the season finale of “24 Live Another Day.”  But when you’re embarking on a move five hours from home, across several states and with three pit stops before you’re in your new home (with three kids and two cats), it’s just inevitable that you’re not going to see it when everyone else does. Oh, how I love On Demand.

Since it’s been an eternity since it aired, I’m not going to recap everything. Suffice it to say that Audrey Boudreau (Kim Raver) is dead, despite Agent Kate Morgan’s (Yvonne Strahovski) very best efforts. And this terrible turn of events is what makes Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), go all, well, “Jack Bauer” on Cheng (Tzi Ma). The beat up and bloodied face of Cheng is good enough, but Jack takes it to a whole new level when he goes all Samurai warrior, far better than a guillotine. See ‘ya Cheng. You’re not coming back from the dead this time buddy.

And as if all of this isn’t bad enough, you have President Heller (William Devane) admitting his condition to the British PM, and stating so solemnly that he won’t even remember burying his daughter soon. It was a terrible moment for loyal 24 fans, watching both Audrey and President Heller arrive in such a dismal location.

Just when you think that it’s all over for now, blood drops tell the tale of Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub)  being abducted by the Russians. An even exchange is arranged, and after a brief and solemn goodbye, Jack enters the Russian helicopter and the season is over. I’ll be honest. I hated this ending. There is nothing I like less than watching Jack Bauer have to bow down to someone else. However, there is some good news. There is zero chance that we won’t see more of 24. There is no chance whatsoever, that the creators would allow Jack to go out like this, off to certain torture in Moscow. It’s just not happening.

After a roller coaster of a ride this season, so many turn-coats and so many breath-taking moments, it is obvious that a revival was just what old and new 24 fans needed. And there is no doubt in my mind that as Jack arrives in Russia, Agent Kate Morgan is already on the job. 24 fans, it’s been fun. I know we’ll be meeting again soon. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next season.

Jessica Bauer (yes, that’s her real name) is a married mom of three, who lives in the suburbs, used to run a non-profit USA Swim Club until being abruptly relocated to the South, and answers “like ‘Jack Bauer’” whenever asked how to spell her last name. She credits Kiefer Sutherland for the extra push she needed to obtain her black belt in Okinawan Kenpo and Kobudo, and dreams of writing the perfect memoir someday. In the meantime, you can read more of what she writes on her blog, Black Belt Mama (www.blackbeltmama.com) or follow her on Twitter @blackbeltmama.

I knew you wouldn't forget about this episode.  It was terrible, but absolutely great.  24 knows how to wrench the guts of its viewers.  This season did that more times than I can remember, and they did it in half the time.  Jack's rage after hearing about Audrey's death matches the rage he felt after Nina tried to trick him into believing his daughter was dead in Season 1's finale.  it was a nice arc that pretty much says, hey...  This could very well be an ending if Fox doesn't want to pick us up for another season.  Hopefully, we will see more, but only if the story is as strong as what we just saw in Live Another Day.

Congrats on your move!  Now prepare the month of getting settled!

Yes, a good season.  And I can't wait for the team of Chloe, Belcheck, Kate and Tony (yeah, he's crazy, but come on that would be the dream team) on a mission to get Jack back.

Makabriel, that would be epic if they brought Tony back for a rescue mission. Seriously fraking epic.
