The Infected are returning.
Variety is reporting that Fox Searchlight, the domestic film distributor of
28 DAYS LATER, is hungry for a sequel to Danny Boyle's apocalyptic horror flick. To satisfy its desire, the studio has commissioned writer Rowan Jaffe to begin working on a follow-up, which, according to
Variety's sources, is titled
28 WEEKS LATER.
Director Boyle is not expected to helm the sequel but it's likely that both he and producer Andrew Macdonald will take on some sort of producing role in the second movie.
28 DAYS LATER, made for around $10 million, was a commercial and critical hit when it was released last year, grossing $70 million worldwide. It made Cillian Murphy's career with American audiences and led to him being cast in the now-shooting
BATMAN BEGINS.
No details have emerged about what the premise might be for the sequel, or even if any of the survivors from the first film will be in the second.
