Cable net TNT has coughed up $17 million for the cable rights to '300' based on Frank Miller's graphic novel according to today's Variety. The net has the film for an abbreviated stay of three years (as opposed to the traditional five). Warner Bros can also place the film with another broadcaster after one year of exclusivity with TNT. There's also a Video On Demand component to the bargain.
Expect heavy editing of the film's graphic violence, although TNT feels confident they can bring it down to broadcast standards without damaging the movie.
TNT plans to start airing the film in September 2009, after it's had an 18 month run on HBO.
