3:10 to YUMA Release Moved

Variety is reporting this morning that 3:10 TO YUMA has been moved up a month to a September 7, 2007 release. The original release schedule had it opening up on October 5th. Lionsgate is doing this to jump ahead of some other films like Brad Pitt's ASSASINATION OF JESSE JAMES and Joel Coen's NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.

"We certainly wanted to be the first Western in the marketplace," said Lionsgate prexy of theatrical films Tom Ortenberg. "More importantly, in what is shaping up to be a very impressive and crowded field of upscale commercial motion pictures this fall, we wanted to be one of the first ones out, so that everything else will be measured against us."

They're also doing this move to get it in the prime slots for Oscar discussions. The dvd release is now scheduled for January.

I don't really blame them. I've been excited about 3:10 TO YUMA for a while now. It looks like a kick ass western move starring Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Ben Foster and Peter Fonda. Of course, there's not a whole lot of western themed genre films out there these days.

We haven`t had a great western in awhile so I`m looking forward to all three of these movies.

I've heard bad buzz about "The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford." The film has been delayed almost a year, never a good sign. Still, with a titile like that, It looks like it would be worth. By the time September comes, I would be in the mood for a Western for a change. Remember Open Range a few years ago. It hit the spot opening in August after a summer of big action films. That there would a movie worth watching in September is a plus.

Westerns can be very hit or miss, at least for me. I loved Young Guns I & II, but never was a big fan of CLint Eastwood westerns. I would like to see a movie version of the game "GUN", i enjoyed that a lot and think it would make a good western. The Quick and the Dead was pretty good, and Back to the Future III was ok, TOmbstone was great, Wyatt Earp was good, so there are some really good westerns, it has just been a while.

Really? You know I`ve never met anyone who liked westerns but didn`t like the Clint Eastwood flicks. In my opinion most of , if not all his movies are what a western should be like. Outlaw Josey Wales, Hangem High, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Pale Rider, and even a Fistful of Dollars still hold up to any western that has come out in the last 25 years. Not to mention Unforgiven. Costner couldn`t hold Eastwoods jockstrap when it comes to Westerns

Hey, Brokeback Mountain was a western! Pretty good, too...
I like Westerns, and this looks good. I'll be there.

Ponyboy, you are right,,,,i did forget about The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and Unforgiven. Those were to very good movies. How come no one has mentioned WIld WIld West as a great Western?...LOL....As for Brokeback Mountain, awesome scenery....Horrible movie. Not even the gay shit, it was just stupid. Ok, you are in love, it's the 60's-70's. Move to San Fracisco. End of story. Well, to me the best Western to date is "Serenity". Yes it is sci-fi, but it has the total cowboy feel to it.
