In a future society, people willingly commit suicide at 21. One of the law enforcers of this time, a 'Sandman' named Logan, rebels against the society and makes his run.

March 5, 2004... X-MEN director Bryan Singer has agreed to helm a remake of LOGAN'S RUN, with MATRIX producer Joel Silver collaborating with Singer. Singer is going back to the original source material, that being the novel by William Nolan, for a new take on the concept of a future uptopia society where no one ever grows old because they are killed. In the 1976 movie which starred Michael York as Logan-5 and Jenny Agutter as Jessica-6, the

citizens in Logan's domed city sought a chance at renewal through a gruesome event called Carousel. In Nolan's book the citizens of the city don't make it past the age of 21. Singer wants to lower the age of principal characters to reflect the 21-year-old termination date.

Scribes Ethan Gross and Paul Todisco are writing the screenplay with Singer. Warner Bros. wants to release the film in 2005. X2 production designer Guy Dyas has already commenced designing the world of Logan.

Nolan continued the story of Logan and Jessica in two sequel novels, LOGAN'S WORLD and LOGAN'S SEARCH. [Variety, The Hollywood Reporter.]

July 19, 2004... Bryan Singer has decided to make Warner's SUPERMAN film his next project, throwing a major kink in the development of LOGAN'S RUN. Singer is expected to start filming the movie this November, and his post-SUPERMAN plans have not been discussed. Regardless, a 2005 release for the new LOGAN'S RUN movie is now out of the question.

With Bryan Singer and Joel Silverman involved in this I think it will be worth the wait.So many other remakes fail to get the treatment they deserve these days.I also like the idea that they are trying to stay as close to the book as possible.Some films from books like The Amityville Horror,The Shinning (not the remade TV version)have fallen short when compared to the books.Hope that this one is a winner.

The original movie is one of my all time favs; cheesiness and all. I love the fact that such a high talent as Singer is involved and that he got the blessing of the author and is sticking even closer to the source material (the book) than the original movie, unlike that disrespectful hack, Roanld D Moore, who molested Glen Larson's source material, Battlestar Galactica on Sci Fi Channel.

#1 The first film fell short of the book in many ways. But was still a well fove and entertaining ,ovie.
#2 Hey Spiderr how did you manage to get a BSG stab into a Logan's Run topic. lol
#3 I have stopped holding my breath on this one, so I'll have to make do with the novel (just bought a 1978 corgi edition off eBay after losing mine 10 years ago).

Is it just me or does anyone else think that 21 is a bit young for people to be willing to commit suicide?

This appears to be a desperate attempt to depart from an important plot element, i.e. entering the Carrousel at age 30, in favor for substituting experienced actors a younger, Hollywood hip type. This a sad attempt to pull in a generation of movie goers who weren't even born when the original aired.
