You're thinking of Jessica Drew. Jessica Jones is a different character altogether. Jessica Jones was an Avenger with superpowers who has an affair with Power Man aka Luke Cage, and they wind up having a child together.

The good: It's on Netflix who has had two very successful shows in House of Cards and Orange is the new Black, both of which were gritty when they needed to be.

The bad: It's Disney and their uninspiring take on SHIELD has resulted in a huge loss of viewership.

My take: Disney is safe, but they're not stupid. They like their money, and have noticed that viewership has waned signficantly on SHIELD. They know the fanboys want more realism, and people, in general, hunger more for heroes like The Dark Knight. I have high hopes for these shows. My hopes could only be made higher if we found out it was AMC, but I'm good with it being Netflix. I'm stoked. As has already been said, these characters require a more paced story. If they can avoid the "new bad guy of the week" formula I think all four of these could be very compelling.

Actually, when the character of Jessica Jones was created by Brian Bendis for the Marvel MAX series called Alias 10-12 years ago, he wanted to use Jessica Drew (aka Spiderwoman). Marvel said no because it was an R rated comic and they wanted to limit the use of certain heroes in the darker, edgier comics. Bendis whipped up Jessica Jones instead.

Alias was a good comicbook and loved the character but I would rather have Spider Woman. I know the rights to Spider Woman are not with Sony but they probably would raise a stink if Marvel Studios used a spider character.

Neverously optomistic here.  I think this is the right approach for these and other characters in the Marvel-Verse, but after wading through these first few episodes of Agents of SHIELD, I must say I'm highly disappointed.  The show is a bore filled with terrible writing and acting, which is especially bad considering it's a Joss Whedon show.  My guess is though that he's only remotely involved with the show passed the premiere.  He's too busy with Avengers and Assembling Phase 2 and 3 with Feige.

Yeah this is great news!!  Netflix has proven itself to be a very capable producer of hi-quality series'!!  This could open the door to many more characters being brought to life in this way, and as long as there is demand, there will be more episodes!!

I'm pretty sure this is going to set the bar pretty high as to how to do a proper superhero series!  Especially if they handle DD properly!!

I was so excited when I read this on Twitter this morning.  I was hoping we would see all of these characters on Agents of SHIELD, but this is even better.  I too was hoping for the Punisher, but it is always possible he has a role on one of the shows, preferably DD.  I'm glad it is Netflix and not ABC.  Marvel is really upping the ante in all mediums the past couple of years.

I am pumped for this news.  The selection of characters says a great deal about the intent of this new series of programs.  This project isn't even going to pretend to be as family friendly as The Avengers.  The connections between Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones are clear to those familiar with their comics, but I'm curious how they will connect to Daredevil.  I'm sure we're bound to see many other street level characters of the Marvel Universe making cameos as well, especially if they decide to start up a Heroes for Hire agency.

Given Marvel Studios propencity for thriftiness, I suspect we'll be seeing relative unknowns in the lead roles, with a supporting cast of known character actors.  As long as the stories are quality and the writers are unafraid to venture where Agents of SHIELD fear to tread, these series will be winners in my book.
