Good article Hanso, when I first saw this article I thought one of the guys at Mania stoled your catchphrase, glad to see that is not the case.

No matter how hard I try, I just cannot get myself psyched for this movie. It looks campy and "B"-ish. I am, however, a huge Cameron fan. Except for Titanic, a movie clearly set to catch the women, they all pretty much are great pieces of art, as well extremely entertaining. Good article Hanso. You're one of the reasons that I come back daily to read the comments. Now, Ironman 2 is a movie I'm already psyched for seeing, and we've only been allowed one trailer on it. Ironman 2 will rule!!!
Dances With Wolves sucked! That's the point haha. And it's an infamous Best Picture winner, since Goodfellas clearly should've won, just like The Hurt Locker should win this year! Sure, it means great things for Avatar now, but undeserving and frowned upon in the future, like Titanic.
Avatar may "rule", for a while, but when Iron Man 2 comes out, the box office will be ITS playground! And then there's TRON: Legacy! Those two movies are the ones I am most excited about! I will see Avatar, but I don't have as much excitement for it as these two movies.
TRON: Legacy is looking like a TRON fanboys wet dream! I personally haven't been this excited for a SEQUEL since Aliens! This might be one that I have to see opening day or in a midnight showing!!
Iron Man 2 is also one tht I am totsally stoked for. The first Iron Man was an instant "classic" for me, and was one of the few times in the last decade that I really got excited for a movie again. It kicked so much ass on The Dark Knight that I was surprised it didn't topple the over-blown behemoth.....I guess hype can win out at times. But, that's the way things go, sometimes. Maybe Iron Man 2 or TRON: Legacy will take Avatar to canvas and wollop it to submission! (Just razzing you Hanso!!!)
Got to watch it last night in IMAX 3D and it was friggin amazing. I have been trying not to let the hype get my expectations up but I must admit I couldnt wait for it to start up. The 3D effects are by far way and above any of the other 3D movies I have seen (not sure if it has to do with the 3D goggles you have to wear to watch it). James Cameron has truly brought to life a new world, some of the scenes were simply breath taking. What was most impressive is that the story/acting was there to match the visuals. Still cant believe I was swept up by blue cat people. And trust me, the na'vi interact so well with environments around them, you forget you are watching giant blue cat people very quickly. There were a few bits in the story near the end that were just a bit too convenient it was only a small thing. But 2 hours and 20 minutes and noe of dragged. Already forked out $120 to take my sisters kids to see it IMAX 3D (they will be talking about this movie to their kids!). $100 Million opening weekend easy
@ Starlight - I'll give you the short story. I thought about trading sexual favors to the whole Mania.com staff. Sure there is Ms. Perry in there but there is also Jarrod. That's when I had to scratch my idea. I then got the next best thing, couple of things actually. 1. Compromising photos of Jarrod with a US Senator. 2 Video of Jarrod's boss soliciting prostitution and 3. A voice messege linking Ms. Perry to Tiger Woods. Needless to say, I got the article :)
@kwsupes, tmswryb - Thanks for the kind words. Just cooked up something for the kids to enjoy and hopefully they do.
@ripum - No you suck! I kid, I kid, no I don't , you suck!
@ Eagle - It's cool baby. I'm looking forward to those movies myself but since Avatar is the only one opening tomorrow then that's the first to own.
@invisage - That's awesome that you liked it. Can't wait to finally sit down with Avatar this weekend.
IM2 and Tron2 are next year, hell I'm more excited about the Avengers movie but that's 2 years down the line at least. We're talking about now
If Cameron stole from other's work so what. Everyone is influenced or copies others. If anything Cameron will bring some recognition to these mostly forgotten works. Plus Cameron is like "hamburger helper" he makes everything better, period
Haters and naysayers willing to sit this out just to be contrarians will rue that decision for the rest of their lives as the rest of the world talks and raves about the experience, the coming of a new age and opening of new possibilities in film making. This is one of those movies that watching in your home theater won't be the same. Not to have an open mind when it comes to sci/fi-adventure is beyond me, especially coming from people in this site
Bottom line is AVATAR will indeed OWN, SONS
Youdaman, Hanso! Great article that's fun but also tells a point with good backup.
Everybody's not going to like Avatar. As you pointed out, everbody doesn't like Dances With Wolves but it is a financial and critical success. Everybody doesn't like Titanic but it too is a financial and critical success. Also, everybody doesn't like LOTR but once again it is a financial and critical success. Same for TDK.
If after some of the critical praise, or the anticipated large B.O. or maybe even enthusiastic reviews from some of your friends you still have no desire to see it, it's perfectly fine. It's always better to drink the cup of tea you want then the one everyone keep insisting you drink.
I hope it does great but probably won't see it since the closest I-max theater is 3-4 hrs away and a pain to get to in the winter.
So...Hanso...yeah...
I gotta ask, who did you sleep with to be given this little article of yours?
:)
