Thanks for that pony, not that I needed convincing but it's nice to see a fellow maniac confirm what most have been saying. I have tickets for back to back shows tonight and I admit that I have butterflies in my stomach, really really looking forward to this

And let me add that it must suck to be TKay42one, the guy's hating on a movie because others are excited and some enjoyed Transformers 2? Give me a break dude, you indeed are a hater when you want failure because others enjoyed and are looking forward to something from a great director. But he ain't the only one, I'm noticing a lot of the haters are hating just to be contrarians, lame and pitiful, and the world keeps turning

@Drow - Oh man that sucks but if it makes you feel any better I've read the film still plays great in 2D.

@Ponyboy - You lucky bastard.  Thanks for confirming what those at the Church of Avatar have believed sight unseen.

hanso 12/17/2009 1:14:03 PM

@Joe -  Sorry to hear you aint as enthusiastic about Avatar as I am.  Your too kind though, when I sat down to write this, I thought if I can manage at least 25% of what Joe does on his work then I'll be alright.  Seriously man thanks again for taken a look at what I was writing during the draft stages.  Hopefully I didn't end up butchering the grammar too badly, I did use your suggestion of "If history is any indication" line :)

@Kooper - They do let anyone write here, I think I set the site back at least 5 years.  But to your point, via Hanso logic it does have bearing.  Just like if Cameron would announce he's working on a sequel, logic would dictate it will easily surpass the original due to the man's track record.  If Michael Jordan stepped on the court with Bulls in a NBA Finals, I would assume the Bulls would win the title ya dig?  So if  Cameron killed it the first time he was accused what's to say he wont?  Besides how else was I gonna throw in the McG dig and Joss Whedon line?

This may mean something or it may not, but teenagers are one of the hardest audiences to please especially in these days of instant gratification. On leaving the theater I heard more than one teen say that it was one of the best movies they had ever seen. Now, maybe they were idiots and don't know jack, but I haven't someone say that in quite a long time when coming out of a movie.

The haters can hate for whatever reason they want, but I dare them to see and walk out and say the same thing. I fu@kin dare them!!

Wiseguy 12/17/2009 1:31:02 PM

pony, I read that some theater in London of the BFI or something like that was outselling TDK when it comes to mAVATAR. Now that's saying something

TK, Get me a quote anywhere where I said I "loved" Transformers 2 and I'll never question you again. Oh I'm not the only one excited for this movie and those of us that are is because of the director's track record and you hating because of other's enthusiasm and past enjoyment of films is pitiful and sad. It's just sad that you let other's fervor intrude in what should be a happy moment in your cinema going life. I won't be surprised when and if you start panning AVATAR, sometimes it takes a big man to say they were wrong but I'll be here to say I toldja

hanso 12/17/2009 1:37:30 PM

TK - Didn;t you need sound to fully appreciate the first talking film?

@Wise - I look forward to reading your thoughts on the film tommorow.

Hanso, my pleasure man. Looks like you've got a hit on your hands here.  ;)

BTW, I'm not anti-Avatar, it's just I haven't done any research on it other than your article and these comment boxes. The trailers aren't wowing me, but Cameron has a fine track record, so when word of mouth comes out, I'll make my decsion accordingly.

Hanso, how can you possibly say that McG ruined the Terminator series?  Have you not seen Terminator 3?!?   How ANYONE can think Salvation was a worse movie than that one is beyond my comprehension.  I think you need to go revisit that classic turd, and refresh your memory on how truely awful the dialogue, plot holes, and Arnold's acting truely was!  I'm not saying Salvation was perfect, but the series was already killed before he even got near it!

hanso 12/17/2009 1:54:30 PM

@Tkay -  I have no idea what they did back then, just thought I throw that out there.  You can stil enjoy the film in 2D though, just stuff won't be popping at ya.

@Ultrazilla - Let me just say that I hate all Terminator films not directed by Cameron.  Also I haven't seen T3 in a long while, I believe I've only seen that movie twice in my life time.  Regardless to you good sir I say the following.  After Terminator 3 we get Terminator Salvation.  After Terminator Salvation we get the franchise in bankruptcy :)
