Dexter is SOOOO AWESOME!!! Just finished Season 2 on Netflix watch instantly...

On a side note, now that I don't have BSG, I've started watching LOST online...It's a pretty good show.

I've only seen part of the first season of Dexter and never read the books so I might be misinformed.  But as I understood it, Dexter killed because he liked to kill.  He had a need in him to murder and torture his victims.  He tried to channel this need, which he recognized as being antisocial and wrong, in a positive direction by only killing other murderers.

In one episode which I saw, Dexter was stalking a teenager who had committed murder because he thought the boy had killed for no reason other than killing.  When he realized that the man the boy had killed had sexually abused him, he no longer considered the teen to be a valid target becuse the boy had a reason for killing that particurlar man and was not likley to kill anybody else.

In another episode, he hunted down a married couple who were paid to smuggle illegal immigrants into the country but killed them and kept the money.  These butchers had murdered a lot of helpless people and had plans to keep making people disappear in the future.  It was just business to them.  The world was a much better place without them.

Saying Charles Manson never actually killed anyone himself is like saying Hitler never actually killed anyone himself.

Lets put this in perspective people.

As for Dexter...I never knew a single thing about this show though I was always wondering why in every picture he had blood on his face.  Now I know why...kind of creepy there is a show with the lead as a serial killer but hey, whatever works to bring in the crowds I suppose.

Well, it is based on a book, so its not like they just made it up. Dexter is an awesome show. Yes, he is a serial killer and I only started watching about a year ago, but when I did I was hooked. You actually find yourself rooting for him. You learn a lot about him and how he had work on controlling this complulsion to kill. Maybe its easier to root for him because not only is he a "nice" guy but he only kills pretty evil people who end up getting away with whatever crime they committed. There are few seasons where he is almost found out and  you sit there and are actually worried about him. Its a testament to the writing and Micheal Hall's acting skills.

I already watched the first episode of Season 4 awhile ago and let me tell you Dexter is totally normal compared to John Lithgow's character. He is truly scary.

Good point Hobbs. I'm no expert on Manson, just saying what I read about him... Without wanting to offend anyone here (we are talking about Dexter and serial killers, right) I've always been more interested in profiles like Richard Ramirez. Into Satan, dope and AC/DC. Looked like a rock star.

I like the ones with a little style, too. The Zodiac for instance. And isn't there still a conspiracy theory around Ramirez involving some type of satanic club?

Wow. From Genre entertainment news to serial killer biographies. No offense, but I think, IMO, that this article belongs in a crime magazine or the National Enquirer, not on Mania. And adding that excerpt from Albert Fish's letter into the article was bad judgement and poor taste. If you wanted to write about Dexter, than write about the show. I enjoy Dexter as much as anyone else, but I don't need to be "entertained" by reading about the horrific murders committed by real life sociopaths and psychotics ( as ironic as that may seem). Sorry , just my opinion.

Can't wait for Sunday to see the return of Dexter , and to see Lithgow return to being a bad guy. As funny as he can be , he can also play great villains. Just look at Ricohet, Raising Cain & Cliffhanger. So it's gonna be sweet to see those 2 face off.

I've always found Albert Fish far worse than Gacy. Surprised they didn't include Ted Bundy. They should've made this a top 10 list instead.

Nobody said you had to read it Moz72.  It was clear what it was about from the very beginning.

I will always retain the belief that Gacey was the inspiration for Clown in Todd McFarlanes Spawn comic series, I mean look at that guy in clown makeup, he is creepy as hell, with the yellow teeth and everything.
