First and foremost Twilight fans, let me just start off by saying: New Moon was exceptionally better than Twilight was!
Twilight as a movie was pretty good, but compared to the book it had a lot of faults, as I said a few articles ago. New Moon, however, followed the book much more closely and the acting improved greatly. Chris Weitz was selected to direct this movie, and whatever he did differently than what was done in Twilight, well kudos to him for doing it! Now let’s move on to the points from my previous article:
For Jacob Black, it had been decided that Taylor Lautner would continue to play him. And what a great decision that was! For such a young actor, Lautner really shows promise. Not only is he a pretty good actor for his age - 17 while filming - but his dedication to the role is encouraging. Jake seems to grow over night in height and size, having gone through some odd changes. To pull this off, Lautner gained 30 lbs. in muscle! He really committed to the role, and it showed in the movie.
Chaske Spencer, Tyson Houseman, Alex Meraz, and Bronson Pelletier were all a part of the wolf pack. And while they didn’t have as big of a role as they did in the book, they all did a good job portraying their characters. The special effects team did a good job with making the wolves come to life as well. They looked very similar to the way Meyer described them in the book.
The Volturi leaders were played by Michael Sheen as Aro, Jamie Campbell-Bower as Caius, and Christopher Heyerdahl as Markus. Some of the other Volturi cast include Dakota Fanning as Jane, Cameron Bright as her twin brother Alec, and Daniel Cudmore as Felix. The whole Volturi cast did a good job being menacing and mean. The set and costumes really gave them that ancient royal feel.
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart both worked wonderfully together when Edwards leaves Bella. And though Pattinson did a good job, I must say Stewart takes home the gold. Once Edward leaves her, she goes searching through the forest looking for him and Stewart really shows us how lost Bella really is without him. The scene was pulled off beautifully.
There were so many other factors that just pushed this movie over the edge and made it that much better than Twilight was. Not only was the acting and directing great, but costume designs, special effects, and sets were, too! The music, written and composed by Alexandre Desplat, was perfect for the mournful mood of most of the movie. To New Moon I say two thumbs way up! I hope others agree with me, as well!
