While your first post was right on the money hanso (referring to district 9 and such), my only real argument is that its not that they cant better the movie.  Its that that to make it better,  or realistic,  or now,  really changes source material.

Contrary to what most might think,  doing something like JOE and making it work,  is incredibly hard.  Some of the things that make it endearing,  also make it tacky on film.  Some of the things that make it Joe,  cant translate,  unless the general public throws their logic to the wind,  and doesnt mind poor dialog and tacky outfits.

Im not sayin git cant be a good movie,  im saying that the things half the country hates about Transformers and about Joe,  are the exact things that others like.  And vice versa.

To me it seems like a cascade effect, the minute you change one thing,  to improve it,  everything behind it falls out of sequence,  and you end up with some thing that at the end,  doest so much resemble  the source material.

Batman has something going for it,  that others movies dont.  Its a gritty realistic universe.  Always has been.  Its a guy in a black suit,  thats pissed.  All the time and has parent issues.  Something that is still relevent.

Im not givin git a pass,  Im just sort of a realist. And when I close my eyes, and try to picture a GIJOE thats both NOW and respect the key source material,  the line between campy and cool,  is impossible to distinguish.

The type of crossover movie that was impressive was the leonardo / shakespear from a few years back (10?) where they made it modern day gangs,  with old school dialogue.  While I would have liked it to be modern dialogue,  it was interesting to watch.  But the argument is,  change the dialogue and its just 'based on shakespear'.

Let's get serious for a moment....it's a movie based on a 1960's toy that was made into a really crappy 1980's cartoon. Who did you think they were going to get to direct this thing, Clint Eastwood? Sommers makes fun, schlockey movies that KIDS love. He really isn't making this for the 40 year old fanboy sitting in his parent's basement in tattered GI Joe underoos bathed in the pale glow of his only friend, the computer. It's being marketed to kids just like the toys were in the 1960's, and just like the 1980's cartoon was one big toy commercial.

Seriously, some of you need to fucking get out of the basement once in a while and see what that bright orange blob in the sky (which we like to call 'the sun') looks like, and interact with a human being in person....I mean interact with a human being you're not related to and living with.

But the light bothers my eyes

I love genre films and fantasy in general. If you take that aspect out it stops being part of the genre. That's why I don't like Nolan's Batman. GI Joe, Transformers etc are based on cheesy cartoon and even though I was never a fan I've enjoyed the films thus far and if you made the films sans the cheesy fantasy I don't think you'd have a true adaptation.

GI Joe would basically be Delta Force or Navy Seals if you want a reality based film and that might nbe good but it won't be GI Joe

I don't want to go outside cause I may get sunburned plus running around in your underwear is great but society won't let me do it if I'm outside.
