First:  Ignore the jackass up above, there are quite a few people interested in Flash Gordon, and Buck Rogers and quite a few of the other pulp serial heroes.  I'd love to see Flash back on the big screen... provided they do it right of course.  Most of the five rules would be the right way to do it, except #4.  "We all loved the new Star Trek", who's "we"?  "We" were actually not all that thrilled with the new Trek, it was heavy FX with a weak story that all-but-completely ignored the content and spirit of the original work as well as on several points basic common sence.  With 4 you're saying make it hip and trendy like Trek, yet with 2 and 1 you're saying don't ignore the influences of the original serials and don't alienate the fans of the 80s show, something the new Trek did in spades.  Make up your mind.

Have the Queen soundtrack plus include Klytus, the evil head of Ming's secret police.  His death scene was just nasty plus he looked villainous.  I remember he looked at pictures of Hitler and said:  "Now he showed promise."  Nasty.

Don't even think about going an overrated Star Trek route.  I'm tired of hearing how great Star Trek when I thought was a piece of junk.

Agrre w/ Westend, after hearing Muse's "Uprising" I think they would be a perfect choice to provide the cover/re-make of Queen's "Flash"."Uprising" should definitely be added as well. The orchestral music should be rock/opera. Too bad Michael Kaman passed away, he would have been a great conductor to provide the orchestral music. Hopefully the studio can add someone with the same style.

Agree with the article, the new movie should have the same style as the 80's version. Please no "dark, gritty, or realistic" type movie. Flash needs to be a  bigger than life action-adventure sci-fi epic!

My choice for Flash: Michael O'Hearn (Titan on 2008's American Gladiators, as well as playing Clark Kent/Superman in the Sandy Collora FanFilm World's FInest) . Professional body builder , athlete, and actor w/ All-American good looks. This guy is The perfect choice to play Flash! Someone give him the role!!

Dale Arden: Let's see.. Smart, Sexy, Strong-willed, and Hot!..give it up for Kate Beckinsale!

Dr. Zarkoff: 1st choice: Brendan Gleeson, 2nd Choice: Stellan Skarsgard

MIng the Merciless: Digitally insert Max Von Sydow's face over another actor!

Princess Alura: Spoiled, Sexy Temptress..I'll go with Megan Fox

Prince Baron..Dude..you gotta give this one to Ray Park!

Assuming the studio wants to use Prince Thun of the Lion Men..Tyler Mane, just put him back into his Sabretooth makup and costume!

And last but not least, Prince Vultan: Stumped on this one...how about Michael Clark Duncan, he definitly can pull of the swagger, arrogance, and fierce leadership attitude of Prince Vultan.

Oh, and bring back Kriton, The leader of Ming's Secret Police and cast Jason Isaacs in the role.

Oops , meant Klytus in my last statement. Sorry.

Moz, good on all except Ming.  May I suggest Ken Watanabe or Yun-Fat Chow.

If you're going to do a good Flash Gordon movie, you have to get the feel right. Raiders of the Lost Ark got the feel right, but unfortunately I don't think there's a director out there that could do this justice.

As for #5 on the list; NO *whacks writer on the nose with a rolled up newspaper* F**k politics AND jingoism, and actually make a fun movie instead.

I'll give you that Monkeyfoot...good point.  Watching the serials for the first time in the 30's I probably would have thought it was the sheet.  I still think Flash shoud be over the top action hero though, not stupid like the Adam West Batman but still in line with the 80's movie.  Make the 30 year upgrade and I still think it would be enjoyable.

Thanks FerretJohn. I just had an inspiration..Liam Neeson as Ming. I just remembered his performance as Ras-Al-Gul in Betman Begins. He would be perfect! Oh, FerretJohn, did you mean Chow-Yun-Fat?

FerretJohn 11/17/2009 9:30:06 PM

He's known by both.

Moz72 11/17/2009 9:42:01 PM

Didn't know that.  What do you think about Liam Neeson as Ming?
