"Superman Returns" sequal release date and title

According to Superman executive producer Chris Lee, the sequel to Superman Returns will likely fly it's way into theaters in 2009.  I am assuming the date would be set somewhere in the Summer of '09, with June being the most likely home.  The film is expected to start production mid to late 2007.

In other Superman news, IESB.com reported that the sequel's working title has been set as Superman: The Man of Steel.

In ever MORE Superman (and Marvel) related news, director Bryan Singer told the newspaper that he has also been offered the fourth X-Men movie, but said he wouldn't have time to take on another large-scale project before the next Superman gets underway. He added that he is interested, however, in seeing the script for the proposed X-Men spinoff, Wolverine.

cool..i like it...kind of like the new Batman title...the dark knight...i just wish singer could blend the stroy telling with the action..i liked his Xmen, but at times they just lacked action, IMHO, I liked the last stand, but the story wasnt smooth and I agree with most people here on how it wasnt focused on one thing ie Phoenix Saga or The Cure...so i like to give him a chance for either a new Xmen or Wolverine...

Keep faith, you can't jedge a talented director like singer on one so so run. Supes had potential, the sequel could be what we were all looking for. I also liked Last Stand, the big issue was that a pretty dead on Comic adaption suddenly became a popcorn actioner.... but I thought it was a lot of fun, maybe because I knew it was going to be a different animal. Interesting that Singer is concidering a return, as long as we don't get a kinder gentler Wolverine with a bastard son and tear jerking scenes.

I like Singer, but didn't like most of SR. What worries me is the comment Singer's made about getting all "Wrath of Khan" in the next film. That comment makes me think he's going to bring Zod back which is a huge mistake (hopefully he'll learn his lesson from the first movie and not do another retread story). We've been there and done that. Kill the %$#@ kid and give me Bizarro (cloned from Supe's blood on Luthor's kryptonite shard) and a huge battle (like the last Matrix movie). I'd love to see Lois recast too, but that's a lot to ask.

You guys are CRAZY! SR was an awesome character building AND action movie. A bit slow at some points, but that was not to sacrifice the story. X Men movies are the same in structure and everyone raves at those. I can't WAIT for the next Superman movie and I am glad Singer is taking the reigns. As far as X4 and Wolverine... go for X4, screw Wolverine. New franchise... new director and vision, stick with what you've created. X3 was not as good as 1 and 2, we need the return to Singer's form.

I too like SR. The main thing that held back Returns was Singer's misguided notion that he needed to completely reintroduce the story of the most famous superhero in the world. It also suffered from many people's pre-conceived notions about Routh as Supes, although Bosworth was bad. Another problem was that every feat Superman accomplished simply involved lifting progressively larger objects. I think, in a sequel, almost all of these problems will be eliminated.

Regarding the "Wrath of Khan" comment by Singer: perhaps he means that he is going to make the villain one that is well developed but not all that well known. or frequently used As Khan was reintroduced in the movie from just one episode of the series, maybe this villain will have been featured only sparingly in the comics. I have no idea, however, who such a character would be as I don't read the comics. I do hope it isn't Zod though. That's been done in Smallville (apparently) now and Supes II.

TYPO: Meant to say: The title should be SuperBOY: BOY of Steel.
