Dreamworks certainly has something to celebrate for today. Their latest tent pole release, Shrek The Third, struck the magical 300 million mark today in Domestic Box Office. This places it firmly into the 2nd highest film of the summer behind Spider-Man 3.

Shrek is 10th on the All Time Fastest Movies to hit $300 Million hitting the mark in 34 days at the box office.

Spider-Man 3 is already on that very same list ranking in 6th place on the All Time chart by gathering up $300 million in domestic box office receipts in a little under 24 days.

Top 3 Domestic Box Office Winners so far this summer season:

1. Spider-Man 3:

Domestic:   330.9 mil

Foreign:    543.8 mil

Worldwide:  874.7 mil

2. Shrek The Third

Domestic:  300.9 mil

Foreign:     108.2 mil

Worldwide:  409.2 mil

3. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Foreign:       547.0 mil

In other news, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer has raked in 73.5 mil in its 6 days of release here in the states so far. It's also made another 27.7 mil last weekend overseas. That means it has hit the 100 mil worldwide mark already in its first week of release.

More details will be given in this weekend's box office report, Maniacs.

I liked Shrek 3 and I don't care what Critics say, it was better than the second one. And my kids loved it, also more tha the second one.

Man, AWE just didn't get the job done. Still raked in the bucks, but I thought it would handily beat out Shrek the Third.
Ah well, live and learn...
Oh, and thanks for the update, Jarrod!

Shred 3 was in no way better than its predecessors. It was slow, turgid, and completely unfunny. A big disappointment.

It doesn't matter whether or not Shrek the Third was good or not, the kids and their parents went with them. Kids are not as harsh critics as adults. They just wanted to see Shrek and his friends again. People will flock to this movie no matter how good it is. I liked it better than Shrek 2 but not the classic the first one was. By the way, Shrek should have made the 100 great movies list. It was better than some films that made the list.

Not having seen it (and not wanting to see it), I still hazard a guess that 3 had to be better than 2.
2 stunk so bad it made me never want to watch 1 again.

jppintar326, if you mean AFI's 100 years 100 movies list - they didn't consider any movies made after 1996. The top 10 look the same as the last time they did the list, and while there are a few on that list I don't like, I think it's a solid list.
