Meow Invasion for HELLBOY 2

This has to be one of the strangest movie updates I've seen in a while. Neil Gaiman's daughter Maddy (When in doubt, use your daughter to give movie updates, Neil!) to give an update on HELLBOY 2:THE GOLDEN ARMY. In a post over at Neil Gaiman's official blog, has said that director Guillermo del Toro has started filming the sequel and has just shot a scene involving 75 cats in one scene. Strangely enough, she also revealed that they already have a DVD release date planned for the sequel a year before the movie even hits theaters. Obviously, that dvd release date isn't set in stone but it's interesting they told her that.

Here's what Maddy had to say:

If you’ve seen the first Hellboy you know that he likes cats. There is this scene in Hellboy’s bedroom where they needed about 75 cats to make it perfect. Filming for that part was over last week, but there are still two or three cats that that escaped and are still wandering around the set. The animal handler is trying to round them all up.

Today Javier, (refer to yesterday’s post, he does the DVD bonus features on Disc 2), interviewed me for the DVD! It was pretty awesome, but I totally look weird on camera. You will all just have to buy the DVD to find out what it’s like! I think it comes out in like December 2008 or something. Geez, I am surely getting some good publicity for this movie! No doubt about that… I totally think many people should thank me..

HELLBOY 2: GOLDEN ARMY hits theaters everywhere on August 1, 2008. It stars Ron Pearlman (Hellboy), Selma Blair (Liz Sherman), Doug Jones(Abe Sapien/The Chamberlain/Angel of Death), John Hurt (Trevor "Broom" Bruttenholm), Luke Goss (Prince Nuada) & Anna Watson (Princess Nuada).

Hmmmmm.... still can't wait for Hellboy 2!!! The idea of them travelling to this mythical realm is sweet!

I'm excited as well, but there's an obvious reason why they already have the DVD planned. They made a crap load of money off of the DVD's. They probably have to plan for features and how much time it would take to get all of them done.

I really liked the Hellboy movie and the first animated movie (Sword of Storms) - the films have a great cast and a great director - great enough for me to overlook being very "meh" on the source material.

This is happening more and more for me - I would never have read Road to Perdition, V for Vendetta, 300, Sin City - but the movies are so well done I love the stories despite the stories.

i did like HELLBOY, it was a decent flick, not the best, but decent. it entertained me and that is what counts! But unlike most people i read a lot of "graphic novels" or comic books in my day, and had already read things like "road to predition", "v for vendetta", "300", and some story lines of "SIN CITY" (because there are a ton of them)

alot of these source material translate well to film, i.e. Road to Predition, 300 and Sin City. and this one seems to work well enough on its own too feet. So bring on the GOLDEN ARMY, i am ready!

PS
when shooting a film, the production team help make many of the featurettes you will see on the DVD, so the DVD and its features are all made a little after the film is released so they can shell it out quickly

I like cats.
But man, that's a lot of cats.
