Can't wait for the new television season to begin, reader? Well, Fox is answering the call somewhat by releasing two of their upcoming shows, K-VILLE & PRISON BREAK, online at their official site as well as a number of other web portals. Even though Fox's fall lineup doesn't officially begin until September 17, 2007, they are putting up the entire premiere of their new action cop drama, K-VILLE, which stars Cole Hauser and Anthony Anderson as detectives in New Orleans. Also up at their site is the first 17 minutes of the first episode (Season 3) of PRISON BREAK which stars Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller attempting to plan another break. This is an online strategy that Fox has caught onto after NBC and ABC did the same for their shows, Heroes & Lost.

"It is critical that we embrace the Internet as a distributed medium that promotes engagement with users, wherever they are on the Web," said Fox's William Bradford, Senior Vice President, Content Strategy. "This approach reinforces the importance of involving fans to assist with marketing the show through word of mouth and discussion forums across the Internet."

Plot Summary for K-VILLE Series Premiere: Story centers on a police drama set and entirely filmed in New Orleans two years after Katrina. Parts of the city are still in chaos, but hope endures as the cops who remain in the NOPD have courage to burn and a passion to reclaim and rebuild their city.

Plot Summary for PRISON BREAK Season 3 Premiere: The new season returns for its exciting third season with Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) forced to mastermind a daring escape from a hellish Panamanian prison where there are no guards, no rules and seemingly no way out.

Here's the official Fox site.

Why? Don't the networks realize that by putting thier shows online they are hurting the all important ratings they covet so much? Knowing I can catch a show online doesn't make me want to watch it when it is airing against one of my other favorite shows. Just seems dumb to me.

They should but the shows online AFTER the show primered. That way if people go "It was great!" there is a way to see it and be ready for the next episode.

lusiphur I don't think it hurts their ratings at all. If primetime cable co's do take a hit on hits, it's only temporary and, in my opinion, absolutely necessary to keep up with new trends in media.

It's F'n awesome that ABC has almost all of its shows online, and they still make bank by putting commercials in their streaming programs. I'd prefer to watch LOST online rather than on TV (then again my tv aint so good).

Yeah, I don't see it hurting either. There are plenty of people who might end up watching it online who wouldn't watch it when it premieres anyway. However, if they like what they see online they'll probably tune in to the next episode. To me, it's like synonymous to putting an ad on a billboard, where everyone can see it, and supplementing that ad on a specific magazine. It only helps to expose the show to a much higher percentage of people.

I love it that networks put their shows online. I can't always be home in front of the tube when a show is on. I can't afford Tivo, and I wouldn't even be a fan of some shows if I wasn't exposed to them online. What the F do I care about their ratings?
Hell, they even show commercials online so they are still making $$$. I became a fan of 30 Rock because NBC is awesome enough to put a lot of their show online. I understand CBS and ABC does too. FOX SUCKS, It has the least amount of shown online. I missed a couple episodes of Heroes last year and because NBC is cool and post current episodes of popular shows (whole episodes, not just 17 minutes) I was able to go back and watch them LEAGALY. Other Networks need to follow this trend. Watching NBC shows online led to me watching more of their shows on TV. I really would like to see Sci-Fi do this (with BSG) and FOX (I'm sure they have shows I'd like but never get to see, excet for a LAME 17 minute tease) F-that! that makes me wanna watch less fox.
