An interesting change has happened for director Gavin Hood in his upcoming prequel, WOLVERINE, for 20th Century Fox. Since star actor Hugh Jackman is busy at the moment filming Baz Luhrmann's epic, AUSTRALIA, the Sunday Herald is reporting that Fox and director Hood will be changing the filming of the prequel to the clawed Marvel character from planned Canada shoots to the Australian outback. This change of filming locations is more to help the actor in case of "reshoots" with the Luhrmann film later down the road.

WOLVERINE begins filming in November and Fox is planning a 2008 theater release.

Oh come on you two! You know they aren't changing the storyline to Australia.

Its the same stuff, just filming in Australia. Kinda like Toronto is now Manhattan in every movie imaginable. Australia and New Zealand are the two new "hot" places to film.

Whoa, no way?!! Errmmm, who cares? As long as it kicks arse. After that lame attempt of X-3 they can only get better. Can't it? :(

Besides, the Wolvie crew have a hard road ahead of them, because I can hear alot of "I liked it the first time I saw it, when it was called "the Bourne Identity, Supremecy, Ultimatum" on the way out of the theater if they decide to go with a origins story.

Yeah, yeah, I know, different (claws, healing factor, etc) but the same (secret govt program, memory loss, dead chicks, etc, etc).

Hopefully they have ninjas.

Well, Supes used Sydney or something as Metroplis....So, why not,,,I don't care where they film as long as it is kick ass.

I don't think we were all expecting Japan. There's been no mention of Wolverine having any ties to Japan in the movie continuity. There have been hints of a Weapon X type of organization. Telling a Japan story would be totally random for the movie character.

Australia, Australia, Australia! I know George Lucas shoot the prequels mainly down under...But, is Australia considered the new "Canada" as in terms of "cheaper location to shoot a movie"? Just wonderin' that's all...

Wlovie is such a popular character could they not just say the bulk of this movie will be James, Logans, Wolvies life before he became Weaponed X. They could have movie #1 of his life prior to that and maybe at the end have him leave for Canada, then have movie 2 his life in Canada as part of Alpha Flight and have maybe end it with him becoming Weaponed X then the third movie could have some of his life in Japan and him wandering the Earth ala Hulk and ending just prior to the point of X men 1.

Now keep in mind I have never read the Origin mini series but read its followup in the current Wolverine comic as well as the mini Wolverine The End.

I think the problem with that suggestion is that Wolverine is already and established character in the movie continuity. Remember, these movies are made with mostly the general public in mind, not only comics fans. Ask someone whose only exposure to Wolverine has been the 3 x-men movies what type of plot they'd expect from a prequel focused on Wolverine, and I'm sure they'd say something involving the government conspiracy. That's the past that has been hinted at in the X-Men movies.
