Apparently so according to Fox sources. This bit of news comes after some reviews popped up online based on an older Magneto draft written by Sheldon Turner. The new script for the studio is being reworked and expect all those rumors about the film's story to be thrown out the window because the new script treatment will be drastically different.

So, what's the new title?

X-MEN: ORIGINS

This new title is rumored to be staying as is all the way to the film's release. The title alone points to a different story concept then previously rumored. When that new plot concept is leaked, I'll pass it along...

I think it's a cool title. However, I think they used that title so they can trick people to think they are going to be watching Wolverine and the X-Men again and not really Magneto & Xavier's story. MOst people are dumb when it comes to stuff like this.
I would've done the same, you gotta move the X-Men brand to get the people in.
Here's hoping this movie is way better than X3, and frankly how can it not be?

Isn't this a rip on Heroes: Origins??? Ironic since Heroes is a rip on the X-Men.

Hanso, if its even 50% better than X3 then its worth watching. I like the title, but it does give people a false sense that they are going to have the X-men appear. What would be cool is if they actually had the original X-men show up towards the end, but that would screw up the bad movie continuity already established. Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Marvel Girl would be cool.
Maybe they should name the Wolverine movie, X-men Origins: Wolverine

This is a smart idea, because it'll give Fox the opportunity to recast all of the characters and still keep fans and the general moviegoing public interested. I'd like to see a movie that deals with the Xavier/Magneto history and idealogical differences; show them as friends and how they ultimately take different paths. The final act could be Xavier creating the X-Men. The movie after that could be X-Men:Magneto Rises. The franchise will have been rebooted without a whole lot of fanfare.

makes sense since Fox snatched up xmenorigins domain name last week.
Maybe we'll see more of the beginning of X3- Xavier and Eric recruiting mutants- now maybe the Hellfire Club and the White Queen can get into a movie?

I love the Xmen franchise, and like most of you aws not thrilled with X3, but I didn't hate it... Just found myself constantly thinking of things they coukd have done instead of enjoying what they did... so I am game for more, especially the idea of a little background on Prof X and Magneto.... the scene with Mags as a boy in Xmen could be one of the best in comic to movie history...
Can't wait to see how this develops...

"Isn't this a rip on Heroes: Origins???"

Then Heroes: Origins is a rip on Wolverine: Origins.

How far back do you want to take this nonsense, metalwater?

Immediately as I saw the title I thought this was and excellent idea. It opens up so many more possiblilites and great storytelling than just focusing on Magneto's beginning.
They can show Maggie and Xavier's growing friendship and adventures as young men as their ideals evolve and differ. They could show them coming up with the idea for the X-men but each desiring different uses for them. I love this. I wonder if director/writer David Goyer is behind this or is he being pushed out of the picture?

Seriously, metalwear. It's not like Heroes Origins is the first show/movie/book to ever use the word "Origin." And if X-Men: Origins tells a prequel story of Magneto and Xavier, it's nothing like Heroes: Origins which is supposed to focus on new Heroes every week.

Xavier and Magneto's adventures and their impending split is either going to be super cool or Elektra bad. I want it to be cool but I'm not holding my breath.
