Director Needed For ARMY OF THE DEAD

While Zack Snyder's 300 hit the theaters last March, the director and his co-producing wife Deborah mentioned the desire to do another zombie flick. The duo already had one zombie flick under their belt, remaking George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead but it was mentioned in reports that this new concept, ARMY OF THE DEAD, would incorporate more of an action style. Thanks to Ryan Rotten visiting the set of WATCHMEN, we now have a little more information as to what the Snyders want out of this new zombie film. The first order of business is finding a director...

"That's a little hard [to do] because we're here [on set] and every day is killer. We want the right person for it. The script has been turned in to the studio and they're really happy with it, with pretty minimal notes back, so they said, 'Hey, let's get a director.'"

She also describes the story concept for the film.

"Basically, something happened in Vegas and there was this huge outbreak of these zombies that were killing people," Deborah explains. "So to contain it they basically contain Vegas. The city is this wasteland with walls around it and all of these zombies are inside. One of our characters goes in there to investigate and gets trapped inside and her father goes in to search for her. He can't do it alone so he gets a group of mercenaries under the guise that there's money still in the casinos, because they don't care about his daughter. There's also a plotline of what's really going on - like, the containment isn't so contained and there are cover-ups. We think it's really fun. 'Dawn' was set in a mall and come on, Vegas is the perfect place to set a zombie film and you can have a lot of fun with that!"

I really like Zack Snyder and loved the Dawn remake... so I'm certain this will be very cool... but now that Resident Evil Extinction has been in theaters, it will be impossible not to draw comparisons.

I was making the comparison before I finished tha article. But so what , bring on more zombies. I really believe that it'll be good.
And he wants it to incorporate more of an action style? I thought Dawn was action packed. So going by that this one should be just pure adrenaline.

I want a ten year window before the next Zombie movie. And come on dude, seriously, how can you set a Zombie movie in Vegas after Extinction, lame lame lame.

"how can you set a Zombie movie in Vegas after Extinction"

Simple, make it better. Which should be simple in it's own right.

I have to agree with goatartist, this screams ripoff.

They should get Snyder for that Evil Dead re-make they've been talking about off and on.

Wow! This has got to be the quickest turn around ever for a re-imagining! Can't wait to see Snyder's version of RE3!

Well something screams RIP-OFF, but this film was concieved WAAAAy before that shitfest Resident Evil Ex"STINK"tion. My feeling is that someone found out about this movie and ripped both Day of the Dead, and This movie off big time. Especially when you look at the piss poor production value of RE3. They just wanted to beat this movie to the punch, and rushed it into theaters. BUT Army of Dead is gonna be well worth admission, and make anyone who saw THAT STINKER RE3 forget it instantly.
I'll say it again, RE3 ripped off Snyder's idea.

why is everybody comparing this movie to Resident Evil 3: Extinction? Let me cut and paste and elaborate:
"So to contain it they basically contain Vegas.[New York City] The city is this wasteland with walls around it and all of these zombies [PRISONERS] are inside. One of our characters [MR PRESIDENT]goes in there to investigate [Crashes Air Force One] and gets trapped inside and her father [SNAKE PLISSKEN] goes in to search for her. He can't do it alone so he gets a group of mercenaries [the wrongly convicted Prisoners that want their freedom] under the guise that there's money still in the casinos [NEW YORK CITY], because they don't care about his daughter."

I'm sorry but replace Zombies with Prisoners and you're talking an almost direct rehash of "Escape from New York" or "Escape from LA"...

...and oh by the way, did I mention I was a fan of the Dawn of the Dead remake?

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking mckracken. This sounds far more like the "Escape From" movies then RE3.
