Despite the rumors that Maggie Grace ("Lost") is circling the project, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has told Radio Free that she's still headlining the twisted take of ALICE, based on the Lewis Carroll classic.

Here's what was said at Radio Free.

RadioFree.com: Are you still doing Alice?

SARAH: Hopefully. I mean, it's a passion project of mine. It's a story that I'd love to see. I'm fearful at this rate that I'm going to be the Queen of Hearts because I'm going to be too old to be Alice. [laughs] It's something I'd really like to see done. And unfortunately, it was the victim of regime change in the studio. And I'm not getting out. And contrary to what you may have read, it's still my project. [laughs] And I'm still working diligently. So to all those Alice fans, I'm not giving up. Because I believe there is such a beautiful, crazy, cool, twisted story to be told there. [jokes] And if I have to get down and write it myself one of these days, I may have to...

Yes, what is this Alice movie? Who's writing/directing it? I've never heard of it.

which alice story is this movie going to be based off of?

Alice in Wonderland?

American McGee's Alice?

or my personal favorite Alyss from Looking Glass Wars books

It's American McGee's Alice, the computer game . . .

and for the movie they just have to have Alice be in the asylum a bit longer before the whole story starts, so SMG's "old age" shouldn't be an issue.

But this was talked about YEAR'S ago, I think even before Buffy ended . . . so I'm not holding my breath for it to happen.

Then again, look how long it took for Doom to happen.

Then again, look at how Doom turned out.

Maybe they can REALLY piss off fans at Mania and have Paul W.S. Anderson write the script and Uwe Boll direct it! (yep, I'm evil)

Well this certainly sucks for sarah, because tim burton is working on his own version of alice in wonderland, and that movie will certainly get made before her project.. And hell, why not? I also would love to see a buffy movie, and pretend the first one never existed

SMP -- err, SMG,

I love you. But please don't.

Flint: Thanks for that. Needed a good laugh.

I've always been leery about SMG playing Alice in this. She has a way of doing the freaky, out-there look in her eye as we say many times on Buffy, but the British accent has to be spot-on and she has to be as freakin' insane as Alice to pull it off. My first choice was always Juliet Landau (Dru from Buffy). The first time I saw her on Buffy playing a crazy-insane vampire the way she did, my first thought was she'd be a perfect Alice for American McGee's Alice. But she may be too old at this point as many would probably argue. Makeup and CGI can do wonders. Just my opinion.
