I hear great things about this series but i don't have HBO and I'm not shelling out $50 for the box set. That is why I am #456 on the hold list at the county library, so I will probably be able to give some feedback by the time the second season is over.

So amazing.  This is show is just amazing.

aegrant, you could probably also rent them from your local video rental or rental by mail.  If your on a waiting list at the library, why not just check out the novels, which are even better than the excellent adaptation that the series is.

I hope these are available on the day after their showing through Amazon.  I'm enjoying this series and Boardwalk, but still not interested in HBO.  I do believe GOT was much better watching it straight through.  I like the marathons.

Anyone who enjoys the show should absolutely check out the books! They're phenomenal!!!!

 Is it Sunday yet?

I'm on my second read through of the books and finishing up the series for the 3rd time tonight. I am constantly finding things I missed or subtle connections I hadn't made before in both.

For those interested, Xbox Live now has HBOGo up and running. Kensai, it may be a bit unethical but if you know anyone who has HBO you could download and log in with their information. The whole series is on there. (you can log in on any computer as well, not just the xbox)

As one who has read the first and half of the second I can honestly say the show is nearly as good if not better in some aspects. I much prefer Tyrion's representation on screen more than I do in the books. There is more detail and history in the books which is nice, but can be tedious as well. The show does aggrandize the sexual aspects of the story (including many interludes not depicted in the books), and in that area I would say the book is FAR superior as there is definitely no exhibitionism about it. However, I think Lena Headey's portrayal of Cersei, Dinklage's portrayal of Tyrion, and Sean Bean's of Eddard Stark make for an amazing show. I thought the Khal was bigger and even more ominous on the show than in the book. King Joffrey was even more of a puss and weasel on the show than in the book (I hate him much more). Sansa, on the other hand, I hate both of them, but the book's version includes a very important tidbit that leads one to believe she is more traitorous and to blame for... things than the show does. Anyway, Both are amazing, but I give a slight edge to the show.
