6 Must Have 2011 SDCC Toy Exclusives

Well, so far anyway…

Swamp Thing joins the SDCC Exclusives

The San Diego Comic Con is just 2 months away. Already badges have been bought and hotel accommodations have been made. So as we plan for Nerdvana we have to figure out what exclusives we can and cannot live without. Last year I was amazed how I put four Mo-Larrs,theEternian Dentist in my suit case. Thankfully, they just took up space and not weight. What I am not amazed with this year is the exclusives. NECA and Sideshow Collectibles have both made me yawn. DC Direct seems to have given everything over to Mattel this year but there are still companies out there with nothing announced. I wanted to bring you 10 must have SDCC toys, for the life of me I came up with only 6. Hopefully, the remaining companies are holding back until the show and this isn’t a sign of our times. In all honesty “6 must have toys” sounds a bit more financially reasonable than 10.
6. Voltron Blazing Sword Voltron

6 Cool Toys at SDCC 2011

Voltron would never make my personal list. For all of the Voltron fans I have to mention this SDCC exclusive. Personally, I would like to know exactly how big this Voltron by Mattel is. If it is 12 inches tall it is not big enough. However, with 22 points of articulation it is still impressive enough to make the list.
5. DC Universe Swamp Thing (plus Un-Men in SDCC packages)

6 Cool Toys at SDCC 2011

Finally Swamp Thing will have a DC Universe figure. Only the SDCC figure will come with the Un-Men though. The package and mask alone make this a must have. If you can’t make it to the Con you will still be able to get him later on Mattycollector.com.
4. Sky Striker/ Star Scream SDCC Exclusive with Cobra Commander

6 Cool Toys at SDCC 2011

There has already been a remake of the actual GI Joe Sky Striker in this year’s toy line. Though what any toy or comic book fan of GI Joe or Transformers is really going to want is the hybrid of the two. Cobra Commander not only comes in full flight gear but a tiny Megatron as well. Sadly, it does not transform. Then again, who ever thought we would get a toy from this short run crossover Marvel Comic.
3. Revenge of the Jedi Death Star SDCC Exclusive Box Set

6 Cool Toys at SDCC 2011

Hasbro is celebrating the Revenge of the Jedi this year by releasing 14 figures in their Vintage style packaging. The catch is twelve of these figures are available on the rack; two are only part of the box set. For the first time both SalaciousCrumb and the Imperial Mouse Droid will be carded figures. Fear not, SDCC attendees, Hasbro is already working on boxes with FedEx to ship this must have item to your home. It will clearly not fit on the plane.
2. Indiana Jones Comic-Con Exclusive

6 Cool Toys at SDCC 2011

Hasbro celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the legend with 6 figures that were not released during the Crystal Skull days. Yes, this is that “Lost” wave we have all heard about. The figures are not the best for playing with but this is a collector’s dream. Finally there will a Satipo and a modern Toht for the collection. Happy Birthday Raider’s of the Lost Ark.
1. Back to the Future “Vehicle” by Mattel

6 Cool Toys at SDCC 2011

Doc Brown’s DeLorean done by Hot Wheels (we hope that’s what it means by “vehicle”) will be the must have SDCC exclusive this year. Not because this will be the first time we can get our favorite DeLorean. No, we’ve had already that. It all comes down to the box. Shown above here:

I like how all of the Star Wars figures are carded wrong.  And is that really a Revenge of the Jedi set and not Return?  Odd marketing, if you ask me.  Everything looks great.  Wish I was going to San Diego.

They are celebrating Revenge of the Jedi which is the original title of Return of the Jedi.

The SDCC exclusives annoy me. Mostly because I can''t go and many of the exclusives arent available online.

lusiphur, the revenge of the jedi box set pictured was a display only for toy fair. It was to show off the box and the individual packaging. the figures inside the packs are wrong because the figures weren't made yet.

redvector 5/28/2011 9:27:02 AM

Looks like a bunch of overpriced junk that the sheep at SDCC will eat up.

ultrazilla2000 5/29/2011 2:38:34 PM

@redvector...or maybe you're just bitter because you aren't getting any of it.  If stuff like this annoys you, then you are on the WRONG website!

the only exclusives on this list i really would make an effort to go to san diago for would be swamp thing for been wanting him to get cleared for mattel to do in the dc wave. and that star wars pack mostly would get because of the package being the death star.  though that starscream and cobra commander is cool to bad that thing can not be a first of a long over due gijoe vs transformers wave.
