I was horrified by the twins in Transformers 2: Racist Robots.

Actually, I think this article was good specifically because it points out the racism and white-washing which still exists.  Sure, people are aware of it, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be mentioned more.  Once in a while, people need to be smacked upside the head and reminded that racism still exists, and can be quite subtle.  I didn't know that 21 was white-washed, and I agree that they should have used someone else for Prince of Persia.

Oh, and hell, let's look at Percy Jackson -- they turned a Greek Faun into a Wayans Wannabe.  How the hell bad was that?

What about Kingpin from Daredevil? A Blackguy playing a white part?...just saying.

jedibanner 3/29/2010 7:22:52 AM

That's a good point darkknight....why changed a character that was obviously white to a black character?

I think this one falls into the ''bankable'' marketing factor because, let's face it, how many large white actor is there out there that would be a believable Kingpin? I can't think of one that would be a good match.

also good catch metalpause...those twins in Transformers 2 were a joke...which once again falls in the typecasting factor I think. The ''black'' actor is the comedy relief and in Trans.2, it's doubled....not a good idea at all.

Snookie from the Jersey Shore!

This article made me immediately think of the 80's movie; Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins.  The movie had white actor Joel Grey playing Chiun, a Korean martial arts master.

What about the decision to make the bad guy in Rising Storm a white guy, when in fact he is a Japanese man in the novel. They didnt want to appear "racist" against japanese. So they were racist against whites instead.

Or How about the amazing new trend of making "Black" versions of EVERYTHING... Karate Kid, The Honeymooners.... making Alicia black in Fantastic Four, or Nick Fury black in Iron Man..(which stems from the same current racist trend in comics). Black Kingpin in Daredevil, black Kojak on TV,  etc.

Or racist titles... "Whit Men Cant Jump"

Or How about making Terry Fitzgerald white in Spawn when he is a black man in  the comics. Why? because the stupid corporate execs felt it was too black at the time.

This article is obviously trying to be controversial, but its a hate making article that seems unecessary. Ignorant racists will always exist in every color on some level.... and stupid corporate top level decision makers will always be around to make poor choices like all of these.

Prince of Persia isn't really that racist... I mean Jake G has Jewish roots, which is technically middle eastern.  Most Iranians I know look a bit like Jake (but usually have slightly curly hair).  Of course, they could've done the world a favor by casting true Persians - it's not too much off the mark like some of these other choices.  If you really wanna go racial, try the movie 300.

What about Mark Millar making Nick Fury African American in the Ultimates, and now he's African American in Marvel's movie Universe.

And they made the Kingpin an African American in Daredevil.  Or does that only fuel the fire because the Kingpin is a criminal?

oops, just missed you there tevii, sorry to steal your thunder
