That last paragaph sums up why True Blood is so good and why Vampire Diaries was so horrible. I watched it because I like everything vampire but it was just plain horrible. I don't know what`s worse, the stereotypical one dimensional supporting cast, the terrible vampie cliche'd dialogue, the Twilight wannabe location or the fact that every 5 minutes I felt that Iw as listening to some tweens  Itunes playlist. i can't believe that Kevin Williamson who I think is a good writer when it comes to  the horror/teen genre helped to write this.
Even without the blood, gore, nudity and cursing, True Blood is still hands down a way better, written produced and overall developed show.

I agree 100% ponyboy! Trueblood is amazing and it gets better by every episode. The character interactions and dynamics are amazing. You care abotu the characters and you love some and hate others (For me i cant stand Mary Anne, glad shes gonna die/go away this sunday). I was feeling that this list should have included 2 other moments i thought was great. 1: Eric Flying (even though it was a small moment) and 2: Eric ripping apart that guy in the basement that hit him with the silver chain and then eating him!! AWESOME moment i was like YES! and WTF! at the same time! :)

This list is just a small reason why TRUE BLOOD is the SUPERIOR vampire franchise out there right now. Im reading the books and i watch every episode and both are GREAT. When i watch and read this series i dont feel like im watching ONE TREE HILL (with fangs). If you arent watching this show you need to go rent season 1 then see for yourself.

Nice list Joe but if you have a list with "Everything Lafayette"on it, my fave character of the show btw, then you gotta have a "Everything Eric".   Eric has been awesome this season, I'm glad he was a more featured player this season.  Show wouldn't have been the same without him.

I'd give give honorable mentions to two comedic moments.  1.  Jason, Andy and Sam doing the God that Comes bit in front of the bug eye people.  2.  Andy screaming Piiiiiiiiiiiiig, from time to time.

True Blood is awesome and I can't wait for the finale though I'll be upset I gotta wait months for season 3.

Ponyboy - I saw Vampire Diaries yesterday.  Horrible is being too kind.  I can't find a word for it right now but it did make me wish I was watching Twilight instead.

C'mon Hanso...we need an everything Jason as well. Best scene was Jason and Andy in the truck with Jason musing about Sam's shape changing and a female dog. No wait it was when Jason confronted Andy about why Andy doesn't like him. No wait the one where Jason shot the preachers wife with the paintball gun. Ah ^%*& it I can't decide on my favorite Jason scene.

I was on the fence about True Blood after the first season; I thought it was just ok. The second season has made me a big fan of the show for all of the reasons you've noted above. The writers have taken full use of having the show on HBO; lots of blood, sex, violence and language. The great thing about the show to me is that all of those things have a reason for being there and they're not just for show. All of the characters on the show are terrific; the Jason Stackhouse character is hilarious because he's so clueless ans while he always falls in the shit he comes out smelling like a rose.

I agree with everyone's comments about Vampire Diaries. It was exactly what I expected; playing off Twilight. Twilight is shit...Vampire Diaries is runny shit.

Diaries was first by more than 10 years. Though most people will assume the opposite since hardly anyone reads nowadays.

My favorite part of the season was when Jason talks about how hard it is having people liking him for his "Good looks, athletics and sex ability" but not for who he really is inside.  Sex ability has become a staple phrase at our house.

Glad everyone enjoyed the article. I'll be writing the review for this Sunday - the season finale, and I'm expecting it to be pretty damn intense.

I appreciate everyone who actually bothered to watch Vampire Diaries. I just threw in an old VHS copy of Dawson's Creek and drew fangs on the screen with a red Sharpie every time James Van Der Beek got a close-up. Ruined my TV set, but so would watching Vampire Diaries.

Hanso and Evil Monkey, I agree, Jason's great, and I actually felt bad about not including Tara on the list too. Too many brilliant moments in this show, but that's hardly a complaint.

agentkooper, sex abilities cracked me up too.

ponyboy, wiseguy, Darkknight, wessmith, thanks for watching so I know I never have to.

Season 3 of True Blood needs to find ways to incorporate Jason & Andy as a team. Comedy gold!

definatly, would be cool to see more of Eric as a viking, pre undeath, could be a mini series in that...
