Cleveland fans fail to realize how much money he MADE for the team and the city.  He put your basketball team on the map.  So no, Lebron didn't owe them anything.  As someone commented, blame the owner and the GM for not surrounding him with talent to win a title in seven years or not hiring a coach who could actually coach.  Do you guys really think Cleveland would have won over 50 games without him?  This year will be a rude awakening to how bad your team really is without Lebron. 

As I said earlier, the Favre betrayal is much worse because he wanted to go to a rival team to specifically stick it to his old team.  Lebron is in another division.

As a side note, could he have handled it better?  Probably but so could have the owner of Cleveland.  He acted like my 2 year old who didn't get the toy they wanted.

BTW Wiseguy-not all the proceeds went to charity. It was an obvious front to not make the show look 100% totally douchey, which it was. I think the reports say they got a good portion, but the rest is unaccounted for, about 2 or 3 million of it... mm hmmmm

BASKETBALL SUCKS..its not a team sport its a ME sport. its a sport that can be played 1 on 1 so i have ZERo respect for it or any of the people who play the game (professionally). Im an Ohio native (Columbus) and i could give 2 $hits about lebron or the Cavs. Im really wondering why in the hell there is even a story about it here on mania.com its pretty nonsenseical on a site that has NOTHING to do with sports.

Wiseguy...man you are lathering up in the LeBron Butter...As far as the charity for the boys club...leBron could have nice and quietly cut a check to them if he wanted to without having it publicized and without the silliness of having the kids in the background.  Oh, and its funny that they happened to be in Greenwich CT, one of the richest communities in the U.S.  What?  are they going to use the money to dip the baseketball rims in gold?

"people should give him at least a bit of credit for taking less money"  Oh Please..Lebron is giving up $15 million in six years.  That is a drop in the bucket to him.  The guy has already made $100 million in salary and at least that much in endorsements.  Lets not turn him into a martyr by talking about the BIG sacrifice he is making in salary. 

Bottom line is that he has forever tarnished his legacy...he will never be put in the same category as guys like Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Isaiah Thomas, and others who labored for years to win a championship.  let me emphasize that LeBron had EVERY right to leave.  I just think he handled it poorly

Violator: I agree with you on the whole LeBron thing: he wants to win. It wasn't going to happen in Cleveland. He went where he thought it could happen. Period. If anybody had to leave a job that they loved, working with people who loved them in order to pursue their big dream understands this and nobody would blame them. They'd be happy for them. Lebron just did that stupid TV special to announce it and it rubbed everybody the wrong way. Deal with it.

REally? The Cavs had the best record in the NBA the last TWO YEARS!!!!  You think that was all because of LeBron???  The fact that they had the best record in the league the last two years and didn't even make it past the conference finals is indictment against leBron.  Oh, and their Coach who you say could not coach was the NBA coach of the year in 2009.  The GM got every player lebron wanted.  Maybe its lebron who doesn't know talent.  Afterall he signed off on bringing a fat, over the hill Shaq in. 

You're right..the Cavs will be nothing without Lebron just like the Bulls were nothing without Jordan when he quit to play baseball.  The difference is that Jordan came back and took the Bulls to three more titles.  LeBron cannot carry Michael Jordan's jock strap

tjanson, Best record in Basketball does not equal success in the playoffs where it all matters.  Ask Dallas about that.  As far as Lebron being responsible for the best record in Basketball, yup he was the reason. But if you want specifics I will give you 20-25 wins from the rest of the team.  All the other wins came through Lebron.  If you don't believe me wait and see what they do this year without him. 

You also bring up Jordan...at no time did I ever suggest Lebron was in the same league as Jordan nor would I ever do that.  Jordan is the real King and I'll never dispute that.  As far as the Bulls years when Jordan went to play baseball they did alright because they had Pippen and had Phil Jackson as their coach.  Who is Cleveland's Pippen?  Mo Williams?  Don't think so, saw him play in Milwaukee and he is a so-so player. There is a reason he was 3rd string in Utah.  I don't give a sheet who was the coach of the year in 2009 your guy could not freaking coach when he had to and anyone who didn't see that the last two years should stop watching basketball.  And isn't it the GM's fault for letting Lebron build the team as you suggest (though I would like proof of that)?  Which goes back to my point it was the GM's fault for not putting the talent around him.
