I think everybody seems to agree that the so-called charity show for his announcement was the ultimate in bad PR and bad taste.

I don't disagree with his choosing to go to Miami, just the bad way he did it.

bryanferryfan 7/13/2010 12:16:24 PM

It was tacky.  He still had/has the right to go where ever he wanted to go.  In my book he's not a backstabber.  Let's be real here.

tjanson 7/13/2010 12:26:23 PM

bryan...that we agree with.  Its his right to leave.  But he should have called the owner peronally..should have done it more quietly without the show, and should have thanked the people of cleveland.  that's my only problem with the whole thing.  I don't think he backstabbed Cleveland per se...

Janson - I'm really glad you said you are a Detroit fan, for a minute there I thought you were Dan Gilbert :)

Queen James can do whatever he wants but he screwed Cleveland big time, the cat had it planned weeks ago to bolt and didn't say anything.  Then goes on live television to basically say "fuck u".  He stringed the Cavs along instead of letting them know what was up, had the Cavs known maybe they could've gotten something to help the team instead of a little cap space relief and a trade exception they got with the sign & trade they did with Miami after Lebron said he was going there.  Unexecusable.

The only good thing that came out of this thing is that the Kobe vs. Lebron argument is over, Kobe won. Lebron James decided he is really a 2nd banana and went down to Miami to be the Robin to Dwayne Wade's Batman. If u don't believe, think about this the following:

If Lebron really was the "man" and wanted a better shot at getting a ring then his best shot was with the Chicago Bulls.  One of the better defensive and rebounding teams in the league, young talent, a great number 2 for Lebron in Derrick Rose and had acquired a low post presence in Carlos Boozer.  Plus they still had Luol Deng to move for additional talent, like a SG.  James didn't go there cause he would've had to be the "man" and he wants to part of that.

Queen James is a douchebag.

hanso 7/13/2010 12:45:55 PM

Lot of Lebron talk though, I was kind of hoping it would've been 65/35 Lebron/Douchebag character talk.  Did see a few suggestions out there that were good ( liked the Ozy mention Sonyman), honestly didn't think of any of them when I did this.

Who ever asked why this article was on Mania, the reason is all the entries are genre then u got the sport subject thus creating an unique genre/sport hybrid article.  Think of it as if it was that Real Steel movie Hugh Jackman got going on about robots and boxing.  The question isn't why its here the question is why they let me write it?  The answer: sexual favors for Jarrod.

Monkeyfoot - Lol, thanks man.  I'll have to add that to my tombstone.  "He's like Billy Bob Thorton banging Halle Berry".

Violator - You know how we do baby, Lakers 3peat!

Chopsaki 7/13/2010 12:58:40 PM

monkeyfoot that pretty much sums up my feelings on it.  His PR team or whoever is giving him advice should definitely be fired but Lebron needs to take some responsibility and do some growing up as well.

The Miami Heat will be extremely tough next year recently adding Mike Miller & resigning Udonis Haslem. Their only weaknesses are at point guard and center. Anything less then an NBA championship next year will be seen as failure. I don't see Boston or Orlando being able to take them out in which case we could very well see a Lakers / Heat finals. It's going to be an interesting year.

Ya it was pretty funny when Lebron told Jim Gray that he made "the decision" that morning...ya right lol.

I really think everyone needs to stop repeating everything like 100 times.

1. Yes, Lebron is a douche for leaving the way he did, and the show was unnecessary and stupid.

2. Yes, Lebron has the right to go to another team like every other NBA player to win to try and be like Kobe and win RANGS.

3. Yes, the owner's letter was way outta line.

Chopsaki- I think his PR guys and his team giving him advice are his homies from high school... literally. Imagine the "advice" he's getting from those guys. "YO WE ARE GOING TO MIIAAMMIIII BIIIITTTCCHHH!!!" Thats the only thing they're probably thinking.

But damn, i didnt know half of the Maniacs are from Ohio!! haha... that actually makes a lil sense cuz I hear Cleveland is really boring so there's prolly not much to do but really get into genre websites and geek out about movies and comics. hahaha... jk jk no offense guys.

But honestly I do feel sorry for the Cavs fans for losing their only sport hero who coulda left a legendary legacy if he brought them just ONE championship. Now WHO the hell is gonna wanna play for Cleveland and Dan Gilbert (the slave driver) who acts like that?? "NBA Cleveland" has just been swallowed up by the earth.

Tonebone 7/13/2010 1:33:02 PM

Just wanna start by saying when you have the best record in the league for two straight years, its hard to call a team garbage.

Ulitimately, Hanso said all I wanted to say...

Yes he was free to go wherever he wanted. But why drag out this dog and pony show? He should have told Gilbert and Co. the minute they were eliminated from the playoffs he was not coming back because he clearly knew. Hell, he gave up in the last quarter cause his mind was clearly already made up (not to mention all the talk that started two years ago should have been a hint). Instead of allowing them to pursue someone else, he plays these childish games. He then completley side stepped the question about when the decision was made during the fiasco and then procedes (in a very subtle and slick way I remind you) to throw the team under the bus as if he did all he could to win them a title and no one else did. God forbid "King James" actually take some responsibility for his short comings and contributions to the teams failed playoff runs.

And lets not even mention the nauseating "concert" the Heat put on to introduce them and I am right there hoping the Celtics (along with all the other elite teams) embarass the Heat. Call me a hater. But that was silly and ridiculous.

As far as the list goes, its okay. Probably one of the few were I have seen every movie

hanso 7/13/2010 1:40:01 PM

Couple of things I forgot to add.  Lebron supposedly left 14 million on the table to go with the Heat but if you think about it, he's going to Florida and not pay state taxes so it really isn't 14 million he left.  Plus  you know they gonna market the crap out of the new "Big 3" so he's going to be making some extra cash there too. Probably gonna get a new puppet campaign, u wait and see.
