The Hobbit Soundtrack

Samples, Release Date, End Song

By Robert T. Trate     November 13, 2012
Source: Rolling Stone/ Empire Magazine

Yesterday, Rolling Stone Magazine posted the end credit song for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The track, “Song of the Lonely Mountain” (play it here) is performed by Neil Finn. My initial reaction was that I prefer the version sung in the film by the Dwarves. What Finn does here is different and I would liken it to songs performed from the sixties/ seventies. It also reminds me of Leonard’s Rosenman’s Lord of the Rings Soundtrack from the Bakshi’s animated film.
Empire Magazine, has now released Howard Shore’s score for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Listen to the score HERE. Sadly, it doesn’t allow you to skip tracks, but it is worth it nonetheless. Besides who want to read a track list that contains titles like “Qui-Gon's Noble End” before the film comes out?
Collectors and fans should take note there are two versions of the soundtrack, complete and abridged.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Soundtrack arrives December 10th in the UK and December 11th in the US. The film arrives December 14th, 2012.

Freaking SWEET!!!! It really captures the mood of the old school Hobbit movie actually. While it was generally panned as being to hokey I really love the original animated Hobbit movie even today. This new song really makes delivers on that folksy hippy type vibe that the Hobbit was really famous for. This movie is going to rock the house.

Yeah, I like it also, sounds different and kind of melodic yet brings instently the idea of dwarfs and their culture.

LOL! I still remember going to my local electronics store to pick up The Phantom Menace soundtrack before the movie was released and seeing the Qui-Gon death spoiler. FAIL.

Hey I remember that as well!  I don't remember the store, but when I bought the Episode 1 CD, they had put a big sticker over the track titles, and verbally told me not to peek because it spoils things.  I looked and didn't care, but thought it was amusing they would even publish something like that before the movie released.
