8 Characters We Hope to See in Iron Man 2

With Iron Man 2 on the horizon, we’re already wondering which aspects of the Marvel U will make their way into the movie. Black Widow and War Machine are going to be featured characters, but whom or what will we see popping up in the background, on someone’s computer screen or on the cover of a newspaper?  Here’s our short and sweet wish list of characters we’d like to see make cameos in ol’ Shellhead’s second outing…
 

8. Captain America

Obviously we’re not going to see him onscreen, but a mention would be nice. As Tony Stark is struggling with his newfound role as a hero, perhaps he could be reminded of tales his grandfather told him about the Battle of the Bulge and “that guy in the fruity costume rushing onto the battlefield… now that was a hero!” Or maybe it could be Nick Fury who brings Cap up as he briefs Tony about the Avengers project, making reference to a plan that dates back to WWII? It could be something as simple as a mention of newscast mentioning a body on ice found in the Arctic Circle.
 

7. Thor

Filming is already underway and we actually wouldn’t be too surprised if the God of Thunder makes an appearance in Iron Man 2. Maybe another after-the-credits introduction between Fury, Stark and Dr. Donald Blake (or Sigurd Jarlson, if you will) would be in order? 
 

6. Hulk

Like Captain America, the Hulk doesn’t need to actually make a full-fledged appearance in the film; a simple acknowledgement of his existence will suffice. Perhaps a scene in Tony’s workshop depicting a giant-sized Hulkbuster armor that Tony is putting together “just in case that green monster shows up again.” After all, when Stark showed up at the end of The Incredible Hulk, his intention was to help General Thunderbolt Ross with his “unusual problem.” Even better (as if anything could be better than seeing Hulkbuster armor), surprise us with an Ed Norton cameo! Odds are good we’ll see S.H.I.E.L.D. in this movie. Perhaps Bruce Banner is helping them out while they help him deal with his own problems?
 

5. Hawkeye

When he first appeared in Tales of Suspense, Hawkeye was a reluctant villain stealing technology from Tony Stark for the Black Widow, with whom he was smitten. After several defeats at the hands of the Armored Avenger, Clint Barton “applied for Avengers membership” by breaking into the mansion and tying up their butler, Jarvis. Since we know Black Widow is going to play a big part in Iron Man 2, we’ve got our fingers crossed that a certain purple-headed master of the shaft will be working alongside her.
 

4. The Mandarin

Well, the terrorist group in the first Iron Man movie was called The Ten Rings and we’re pretty sure it isn’t just a coincidence that there happens to be a major Iron Man villain who wears ten rings, each of which has some sort of crazy mystical power. 
We’re hoping to see The Mandarin play a larger role in Iron Man 2, maybe as the big bad behind-the-scenes. Let’s face it, the Cold War origins of the Black Widow aren’t really relevant in this day and age; but somebody’s got to be pulling her strings. And with Obadiah Stane out of the way, room has been cleared for the biggest Iron Man baddie of all to step in and get revenge on Tony Stark.
 

3. The X-Men

Hey, just because Marvel can’t include Wolverine and Professor X in the movie doesn’t mean we can’t have a quick scene in which a well-dressed Patrick Stewart sits at a table in a restaurant, eating dinner with his old friend Nick Fury, does it? Is there any reason Hugh Jackman can’t do a walk-through as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. who has been subject to brainwashing? Even if these two ideas don’t make it past the legal department, maybe a reference to the use of mutants in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Avengers project would be enough to tie the universes together without stepping on any toes.
 

2. The Hall of Armor

We’ve already caught glimpses of it in the trailer and we know we’re going to see more than one suit of armor in this movie, but if you haven’t already noticed, we’re pretty greedy. We don’t want to settle for three or four armors; we want to see a workshop lined floor-to-ceiling with a variety of in-progress armors for every special occasion. Remember that bubble-helmeted deepsea armor? Or the previously mentioned Hulkbuster armor? How about that jet-black stealth armor? We don’t even need to see them in action and honestly, we don’t even mind if we just see a workbench covered with half-completed gloves, boots and chest plates. It’s not about Tony utilizing every suit of armor in this movie, it’s just about knowing they exist.
 

1. Jack Kirby

Yeah, we know he’s dead and yeah, we know that Kirby’s heirs are currently engaged in a lawsuit with Marvel over the rights to the characters. We also know that Don Heck did more of the interior art on the original Iron Man comics than Kirby, but… dammit, Stan Lee gets to have a cameo in every single Marvel movie ever. It’s Jack’s turn!
 
Now the question arises: How does a dead man make a cameo in a movie? Well, they figured out a way to do it in The Incredible Hulk, having Bruce Banner learn Spanish by watching dubbed episodes of The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, which starred Hulk television alumni Bill Bixby. Anybody remember that episode of The Hulk where Kirby had a cameo? Put it on a TV set in the background somewhere in the middle of Iron Man 2. Problem solved, everybody’s happy.
 
Iron Man 2 has a release date of May 7, which is right around the corner, so we won’t have to wait long to see if any of the items on our wish list make the final cut. Which is good, because it was awfully hard to type this article with our fingers crossed.

 I'm gonna bet we'll get more hints, mentions and/or appearances by Captain America, Thor, Hulk and The Mandarin

Someone let us know if there is a secret scene at the end of the credits. I'd rather not sit through them all for nothing lol.

My understanding is that there will be an extra hero played by Oliva Munn. I belive it will be the Scarlet witch. Namely because Xmen: first class has Wanda and Pietro in it, so it would make sense for it to be her,

If Not her, odds are it will be Wolverine.

What would be nice, and I'm certain that Marvel is capable of doing it is to give a bit of foreshadowing into the next movie storyline. What I mean is what the plotlines iwll be- can we start to see a taste of the overarcing plot that leads to the Avenger film.

Oh and NO 3D. Do not fall into the crap that is 3D. We actually dont like it, it's dumb and as our favorite admiral says : IT'S A TRAP!

Olivia Munn is playing a reporter. Streching those 'acting' muscles of hers.

Words cannot express how relieved I am that she's not playing a major character.  While attractive, the woman is a massive waste of space.

Honestly, out of all the things you mention, seeing the Hulkbuster Armor is probably the idea that got me the most excited.  I know they'll be nods and references to Cap, Thor, etc.  But seeing the Hulkbuster Armor would be to sweet!

***Possible SPOILER ALERT**** Obviously Chad hasn't kept up with recent news or for the sake of not spoiling anything is acting as if he doesn't know. But we already know there's a big scene relating to THOR. and Favreau said that if you pay attention you see something on the news on a tv in the background talking about the chaos caused by the Hulk. And Munn is a news reporter not a superhero thank GOD. ***SPOILER OVER****

Chad, great effing idea with the cameos. I guess as long as Marvel doesn't refer to Wolverine or Prof. X by name in the movie or use their powers they can make an appearance and would not be breaching their contract, but it won't happen.

The cameo I wanted more would be  Hank Pym.or/and Janet VanDyne. Since Hank's a scientists there's an easy in for them to meet up with Starks. But I understand that we have to save some of these for THOR and Captain America

johnwhitetoledo, we aren't getting anyone related to the X books cause they're under license to Fox. So don't hold your breath waiting for Wolverine or Scarlett Witch unless Disney and Fox agree to cross pollinate their movies and that's not very likely IMO, although it would make sense for both companies and their franchises

Yeah, it'll be Hulk, Thor, and Captain America. I could really go for seeing Hulkbuster armor, and maybe even a mention of General Ross and his Hulkbuster operation.

Besides outright cameos I definitely like the little hints they can throw in.  We already got a Captain America hint in the first one with the half built shield so I'm sure we'll get more of one in this.  Some sort of nod to Spiderman man existing in the world would be pretty cool too.  But you've got the same problem using him as with the X-Men.  It's too bad legal crap gets in the way of the Marvel universe on film truly being one entity.
