Hanso, start with Ecclecston.  Tennant was very very good but I still think that I liked Ecclecston just a tiny bit better.

And if you skip Ecclecston you'd miss The Lonely Child and The Doctor Dances, two really great episodes.  Very chilling.

Maybe the next time you make one of these lists you should include the name of the show that you are refrencing.  That way people won't get confused.  Including, apparently, the editor choosing the pictures to include with each entry.

maybe a delorean is cool, but a HOT TUB TIME Machine, come on that would be great.

Otherwise I have to add my vote for the big blue Police Box.  The Tardis is the best, it only needs a better crew to pilot it.

Also if you skip Eccelston you miss the episode Unquiet Dead.  I mention that because they introduce a character, Gweneth", She dies but one of her decendants play a role in TORCHWOOD.  The Lonely Child and The Doctor Dances introduces us to Captain Jack Hrkness who is a reccuring Dr Who side kick and becomes leader of the Cardiff branch of TORCHWOOD, which is a pretty good (slightly more adult themed) spin off of DR WHO.  (TORCHWOOD is actually an anagram of DORTOR WHO).

Also the actress Naoko Mori played Dr. Sato in Aliens of London.  They later retconned this so that she was really only pretending to be a Doctor, she was really Toshiko Sato another member of Jacks TORCHWOOD team.  So there arre lots of tie ins to later episodes that wou may not understand if you don't watch Eccelston.

When they said Eccelston was leaving I was really stunned, I thought he was one of the better Doctors.  And said they'd never replace him with a suitible actor.  I was very quickly eating my words. Tennant is now in my top 2 Dr Who actors.  Tom Baker is still right up there as my all time favorite.

The TARDIS, duh.  Actually, a fully functional TARDIS, not a stolen, obsolete, and malfunctioning Type 40.  Bigger on the inside (much bigger), it can travel anywhere within the 100 trillion years the universe exists, and, thanks to the chameleion circuit, it can be any other type of time machine.

Hanso: If you want to watch Dr. Who you could start from the beginning with Hartnell. If you want some good laughs check out Troughton, or Tom Baker. Yes alot of the old episodes are dated, there is hammy acting, and the monsters, well, they were on a tight budget. Even with these issues, they told some very good stories.

Hanso - While I disagree with Kara about how good the new Star Trek movie was, on the matter of Dr.Who she is right on the money. Its not like any sci fi show on TV and I would say a bit of an aquired taste, but if you like it, you will like it alot. Ecclecston series was amazing, after watching it I went back tired to watch all the Dr.Who I could find, even the Fox movie from the 90's. Tennant is excellent as well, its hard to explain, they are different but they are both definately the Doctor. I am really loooking forward to the start of the new series here in a couple of weeks, time will tell if the new guy is up to the challenge.

So the solution is simple watch the Modern series rewrite the article and put the TARDIS in the number 1 spot where it belongs ;)

Well maybe number 2 the Delorean is pretty fricken sweet.
