As much as I enjoyed District 9, I'm really surprised it made the list.

Yeah, District 9 was a good movie, but not on my list of best of the year.

I've seen 8 of the 10 movies on this list.  I haven't seen An Education or A Serious Man yet.

My top 3 would be Avatar, Up in the Air, and The Hurt Locker.  All 3 of them hit me a different way as to why I really enjoyed them, so for me it's really tough to pick one.  Also I have a certain deep love for Inglorious Basterds that just can't be helped.  I'm really hoping that Christoph Waltz picks up the supporting actor award.

Altough I love Sci Fi, and I've been a critic of the Academy for not given the big prize to deserving genre movies (Star Wars, ET, 2001, A Clockwork Orange, Dark Knight) I' choose Inglourious Basterds over Avatar.

Im to lazy to go look it up, but is this the first time that a Pixar flick has been nominated for animation and picture?  Pixar has released some amazing films as of late, I mean all are really good but the last few have just been amazing.  Glad to see UP getting its due.

I would like to know how "9" didn't make it into the animated feature film catagory.  I thought that was really cool and  had an interesting story to go along with.  Anybody else think it's kind of gimmicy to expand the best picture catagory?  Why not have a couple catagories like the Golden Globes have?

Wiseguy 2/2/2010 7:19:49 AM

The only film I can see beating and maybe even deserving of beating AVATAR is the favorite heading in, The Hurt Locker. All others need to step aside

And IMO if you're not nominated for best director along with best picture then IMO you're only nominated to fill the extra 5 spots they alloted for best picture

Awards shows suck anyway. I find it stupid watching all this self-congratulatory back patting which is why I'll be watching something else. Plus we all know which is the One Film to rule them all, One Film to find them, One Film to bring them all and in 3D, bind them, AVATAR

Not sure i agree that UP should be able to be nominated for best animated feature and best picture.

Inglorious Basterds was good but i dont think best picture good. AVATAR will win 7 of  the 9 nominations; 2 of them being best director and best picture. Visual effects is a lock and if it doesnt win that then the FIX IS IN!

AVATARDS UNITE!!

Flint521466 2/2/2010 8:45:18 AM

Good to see Woody get a nod for his role in The Messenger.

Hobbs 2/2/2010 8:48:52 AM

What a scam....to up the number of best picture nods from 5 to 10 just because they are losing viewership is a sellout.  That was the geek factor...district 9 and maybe even Avatar wouldn't even have made the list if not for 10 being nominated.

Cameron will win best director but I would bet against best picture...just because it wasn't the best picture.  Knowing how the academy works they'll probably pick "An Education" which no one has even heard of until it got this announcement.
