Columbia Pictures has unleashed the 8-minute trailer that came included with the soundtrack for David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Watch it in the video player below and sound off with your thoughts. The film will star Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Stellan Skarsgard, Robin Wright, Max von Sydow, Christopher Plummer, Joely Richardson, Steven Berkoff, David Dencik, Alexandra Daddario and Goran Visnjic. Fincher led the production, based on a screenplay by Steve Zaillian.

Plot Concept: Based on Stieg Larsson's posthumously published crime thriller trilogy, "The Millennium Series." The book describes the mystery surrounding the long-unsolved disappearance of an heiress. A journalist recently dinged by a libel case and a young female hacker try to resolve it, stirring up bundles of personal and industrial corruption along the way.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will arrive in theaters December 21, 2011.

Wow 8 minutes. I'm skipping it only because I'm not familiar with the material and really don't want anything that may spoil what appears to be a great mystery

Same here, Wise.  I recently bought the book at the Richmond airport bookstore and gonna try and finish it before I see the movie.

Also, I hear Rooney Mara did an amazing job with the role.  She really got into it and all those piercings are the real deal.  Not sure about the tats though.  It's really weird looking at her in that get-up after seeing her in the Elm Street reboot.

I'm looking forward to this movie since I liked the books and I'm not worried about them making these movies too "Hollywood" since David Fincher is directing. If they got Woody Allen or M. Night Shamalamadingdong to direct then I would be a wee bit concerned.

And if this film does stink, then I can still watch the original movies, which I have yet to see.

The best 8 minutes of my life.

Read the books, seen the Swedish films and will see all of these... Love these characters!

For those of you waiting for this version to be released...don't wait. Check out the Swedish version, which is streaming on netflix. I too was waiting until someone told me how great it was. The movie feels authentic with the unknown actors and subtitles. It won't make any sense if the characters are speaking english. Also, he original Lisbeth is some much hotter, this versions Lisbeth is just creepy looking (especially because she looks like she's 15).

Spoilers......................the fact that Craig and Mara get it on might just be one of the creepiest things on film. The original Lisbeth looked her age and had a sex appeal. One additional point...this version would have been better with a no-name as the lead. You know walking into the theater that Craig will survive until the end. The story can carry itself without the need of A-listers.

Noomi Rapace played Lisbeth in the Swedish film.  Noomi is also appearing in Prometheus next summer.
